125 Festival of Events

Our 125 Festival of Events will be officially starting with the launch of the Centenary Ladies’ Gold Cup – we think it’s the oldest English event for female pros and amateurs as they play for the wonderful Gold Challenge Cup. It’s great that its centenary has fallen in our 125 celebratory year and we have two events lined up on 10th and 11th April to see some of the best women golfers take on our course including our very own European Tour Professional Annabell Fuller and Club Champion Issy Simpson.

Please click here for more details … and also here for the full Festival programme …

Other highlights to look out for are:

Also the Golf section has organised an impressive 125 Festival of Golf through the summer.

125 Polo Match – the Roehampton Trophy at Ham Polo Ground

As a nod to our past please note Sunday 23rd August is when the oldest polo trophy in the UK – The Roehampton Cup – is played for at Ham Polo Ground and our Members are encouraged to attend and support the teams while having your picnic.

Ham Polo Club is celebrating its centenary so it will be a special occasion.

Indoor Golf Centre Update

Work is completed on installing the safety fencing on the 1st tee which needs to be in place to protect the workmen preparing the area for the mounding of the new Short Game Practice Area. Works will start on the new IGC on 13th April after the Gold Cup weekend.

The fencing will need to be in situ on a permanent basis to protect the IGC and SGPA from wayward drives so apologies if it make the first tee shot more daunting but we had no choice in having to install it.

An Oversight Committee has been set up to monitor the project’s progress and liaise closely with the Project Management team Sports Clubhouses. This Committee will report directly back to the Board of Directors.

Table Tennis and Parkinson’s

We are thrilled to welcome 18 times Scottish Table Tennis champion Gavin Rumgay here next Sunday 29th March playing with pupil Stephen Allott. Stephen was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2012 and table tennis has offset the progression of the illness.

Come and listen to Stephen explain how this has happened and marvel at Gavins’ skills. Click here for more details as we look to establish Roehampton Club as a table tennis centre to help offset Parkinson’s for our Members.

Well wishes

Thank you for all the kind comments about my upcoming retirement and the appointment of Rhys Beecher as my successor. My team and I will be working hard over the summer to deliver all the 125 events and to prepare the Club ready for Rhys to take over later in the summer.

He is a very capable guy and coming from RAC and other top Clubs has an impressive pedigree. The Club will continue to be in good hands.

Best wishes,
Marc
