Art Group members are invited to the opening of the exhibition from 6.30 to 7.30pm on Tuesday 10th November with a glass of wine. You can come even if you are not joining the dinner. Those staying for dinner should take their seats by 7.45pm when the exhibition will be opened by Dr Nick De Leon, head of Design at the Royal College of Art.

Art Group Annual Dinner

The dinner was fully booked in a matter of moments; remember to be sat by 7.45pm.

Private visit to the Stern Pissarro gallery

The visit included a Q&A with Lelia Pissarro, the great granddaughter of Camille Pissarro. She spoke at length about being taught to paint by her grandfather, including selling her first painting aged four years, and now co owning a gallery selling five generations of her family’s art.

Thanks to fellow member Eric Campus for introducing us to Lelia and David and contributing towards some fabulous wine. A great combination.

Stories in Stained Glass

Lecture by Susie Harries, Tuesday 20th October 8pm

Stained Glass tells stories. It has been used to play politics, bribe bishops, recruit soldiers and tell jokes. The most remarkable subjects appear in it’s panes, from miracles to Mandela, tanks to Tiffany, Burne-Jones’s water-closet to Churchill’s cigar. It is a powerful way to create atmosphere and send a message – not just in churches, but in airports, sports centres, town halls, banks, libraries and shops and this talk looks at it’s stories in your area: your saints and your sinners.

Susie Harries is a writer, editor and lecturer specialising in 20th century culture and the arts. She has published books including those on war art, opera and the composer Elisabeth Lutyens. She has lectured at the Imperial War Museum, the British Museum and the Twentieth Century Society.

Free for Art Group members. Art Group members may bring guests who are not Club Members and must now pay £10 with credit / debit card at Reception. They will be given a receipt to gain entry to the lecture. Club Members attending should also be Art Group members.
Annual group membership is £15 and includes seven lectures. Join and pay at Reception with credit / debit card. Application forms available from the Art Group noticeboard.
