Hyrox Report

On Friday 27th March – Lucy Carter (Deputy Gym Manager) took three teams up to London Olympia to compete in a Hyrox Relay. This was a nice way for members to take a dive into Hyrox without having to commit to doing a doubles or singles event.

We had two women’s teams made up of:

Team: Caitlynne Barlow, Tara Forshaw Huxley-Blythe, Elizabeth Collins and Filiz Tunali-Flynn.
Team: Jessica Cooper, Selina Sagayam, Aisling Wilson and Nicola Stirling.

As well as one men’s team made up of: James Spooner, Nick Paulson-Ellis, Gym Manager; Ricky Alexis and Gary Evans who also works at the Club.

Hyrox Relay format is all about being as fast as possible. Giving everything to a 1km run and station followed by a well-deserved rest while teammates take on their turn.

The set up is still the same. 8 km run split into 1km intervals and 8 stations: these consist of 1km Ski-Erg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, 80m Burpee Broad Jumps, 1km Row, 200m Farmers Carry. 100m Walking Lunges and final 100 Wall Balls to finish the race.

Nerves were definitely there before the start. When you turn up to a Hyrox event you can most definitely hear it before you see it! The atmosphere is next level, loud, supportive, a little bit overwhelming but full of people pushing each other on!

After all of the Hyrox training sessions and relay run throughs, it was finally time to actually compete! With some super late start times (7.40pm, 8pm and 9.30pm) all of the teams did an amazing job and really pushed themselves in their events. That finishing line feeling when those 100 Wall Balls are done and you all run over the finish line together – nothing beats it!

It was so lovely to be able to train the teams for the last six months and be able to see it all the way to an actual event. A huge well done to those who competed in the Relays, but also to those who competed in Doubles and Solo events. A massive week of Hyrox was had – we go again in December!

If you are interested in taking part in a Hyrox – whether that be an actual event itself, a class run at the club (Monday 10am or Saturday 11am) or want to learn a bit more about it then please speak to Lucy in the gym.

Sound Bath Sessions

Sundays 5-6pm
10th May, 7th June, 5th July, 2nd August, 6th September

Step into a space of calm and immerse yourself in the soothing landscape of sound. Gentle vibrations from a gong, crystal bowls, and chimes help quiet the mind, ease tension, and support deep relaxation. Each session offers a chance to slow down and reset – though each person’s response is unique. Beginners are welcome; simply be present, get comfortable, and allow the sound to do the work. £20 per person.

Important: Sound baths are not suitable during pregnancy, for those with pacemakers, sound-induced epilepsy or other serious medical conditions. If you have any health concerns, please consult your healthcare professional before attending.

Single session booking only. Bookings open Monday 6.45am the day after previous sound bath. Cancellations and refunds accepted up to seven days before event.
Payment must be made at time of booking. Bookings can now be made at www.roehamptonclub.co.uk via the social events tab, at Health Club Reception or give the team a call on 020 8480 4245

Polite reminder on gym etiquette

Please remember you must wear appropriate attire when using the gym. You may remove footwear only to work in a specific area however if you need to travel to collect more equipment or change exercises you must put footwear back on whilst doing so. If you are going into a class, please keep footwear on until you are in the studio.

Please remember that bags are not permitted in the gym or at the top the stairs. Tennis bags should be placed into a locker, and smaller bags can either be kept in lockers or the storage available at the base of the stairs to the gym.

Please be mindful of other gym users when you are training. While we understand you may need to use your phones to assist in your workouts, please note that is unfair to use them excessively whilst on equipment as this can cause others unnecessarily long waiting times.

Please understand during busy periods it is kind to be mindful of other Members, try not to have lengthy recoveries unless needed and if possible, share equipment with others during your recoveries.

Studios classes are phone free zones, please refrain from using these while participating in a class. If it is an emergency, leave the class and use your phone in a designated phone area.

Remember the importance of wiping down equipment after use when in the gym. This protects yourself and others from becoming unwell and helps to keep the equipment in top shape for you to enjoy! There are cleaning wipes stationed around the gym, but should you struggle to locate one please speak to a member of the team who will be happy to help.

Gym footwear

We are aware that Members would like to be able to perform some exercises without trainers on in the gym and have discussed safe options to allow for this. You can now remove your footwear to perform exercises (that are more effective without footwear) if you stay in one location. If you need to move to another location or vacate that spot to gather equipment you MUST put your footwear back on. Appropriate footwear must be worn when using cardiovascular and resistance machines at all times. Trainers / running shoes or adapted training shoes are considered appropriate footwear, sandals / Crocs/ Birkenstocks / Uggs or similar footwear is not considered appropriate. Members must also wear appropriate footwear when crossing the gym floor to get to a studio.
