We were given the award for transforming the social areas in the Clubhouse with particular praise for the design of the Members’ Bar and the extension of the Bar Terrace giving wonderful vistas over the gardens and golf course.
Chief Executive’s Message
Club Refurbishment of the Year
I was proud to collect this award from the UK Club Mirror awards in Leicester recently.
Members have been universal in their praise for the development and particular thanks must be given to the local contractor JW Cannon and to the designer DLSM based in Brighton. The small but perfectly formed trophy is proudly placed in the Members’ Bar for all to see.
Masterplan 2035
Indoor Golf Centre
With Members giving a clear steer to the Board to progress with building an Indoor Golf Centre next year it’s going to be a busy year for the whole team. The predesign work will start in January for two months and the contractor hopes to be on site setting up their work compound in March.
We will also have the 1st tee safety net being erected in early March to protect the workforce from errant golf balls from the 1st tee. Works will begin after the 100th Gold Cup and its Pro Am to be played on 10th and 11th April followed by the Men’s Centenary Putter on 12th April. The IGC is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
More Padel Courts
The second important project was to increase the number of padel courts by five and place them on courts 4-6 with a cover. We meet with Wandsworth Planners on 8th January to go through our proposal to gain planning permission. If obtained later in the year we can then plan when the courts can be built as we recognise the pressing need to increase our padel provision.
Playground, Pickleball and Health Club outdoor area extension
Discussions on how plans can be drawn up to develop these projects are ongoing within working parties as we continue to look to futureproof all our sports and activities.
Philanthropy at Roehampton Club
At this time of year, it’s worth reflecting on what support Roehampton Club gives annually to the local community as part of its CSR. Please click here to see what activities we do support and also how others can apply for support from the new Roehampton Club Foundation which Directors Penny Egan, Karen Hunneyball and Anne Wilkinson will be overseeing for the Club.
125 Celebrations
The Club will celebrate its 125th anniversary next year and has numerous exciting events planned for Members to enjoy. The first event features seven-times world snooker champion Stephen Hendry playing members here on 20th January with comic and impressionist Alistair McGowan interviewing Stephen in what will be an entertaining evening.
June 11th is a date for the diary with four Tennis Grand Slam champions playing here for Members to watch and two of them – Joe Salisbury and World No 1 Lloyd Glasspool – are playing with Members this Friday 19th December in a friendly handicap competition in the ITC which will be fun to watch – find out more here.
Another highlight will be the Club hosting the Tennis National Premier League Doubles Championships from 22nd to 25th May 2026. Members may want to be one of the key sponsors for this prestigious national tournament and we are holding an NPL Sponsors’ Evening on Wednesday 14th January at 7pm for you to find out more about the competition and potential corporate sponsorship opportunities. To register your interest in attending this evening please email Rory at rory@accommodationsuk.co.uk by 7th January.
Please click here to view all the events as the other key date for the diary is Saturday 27th June for the Members’ Summer party followed by Sunday 28th June for Family Day.
125 Merchandise and Events
The Sports Shop has already started selling its 125 Collection as early Christmas presents and the Club will be launching its 125-gift collection in early April for Members to choose from. If you haven’t collected your 125 Club diary from Reception please do so as there a few left!
The 125-anniversary year will also feature the Club hosting the World Team Championship for Croquet – The MacRobertson Shield in July – 101 years after the first staging of the event also here at Roehampton Club.
It will be my privilege to steer the Club through all these events next year and then make my farewells in September 2026 handing over to my successor to carry on the good work with our fabulous team of staff.
The staff and I would like to wish Members a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Best wishes,
Marc
