Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member,

I hope everyone is enjoying the warm summer and it is pleasing to hear the many compliments we are receiving about the presentation of the golf course, grass courts, croquet lawns and gardens. David Howe and Chris Hughes who head up those teams are doing a fabulous job coping with the lack of rainfall and efficiently using of our irrigation to keep everything looking so green and colourful. This helps to offset the unattractive sight of our building works which thankfully will all be completed by early September.  A summary of the completion dates:

New Bar Terrace is due to open on Saturday 23rd August

We are aiming to open the Bar Terrace on Saturday 23rd August for the Bank Holiday weekend. Access can be from 8am for an early morning coffee through to when the Members’ Bar closes at 10.30pm. The Bar will be open as normal at 11am each day.

Once the Terrace is open we will be able to commission an acoustic assessment of the Members’ Bar and Terrace to see if we need to introduce any retrospective measures responding to some Member concerns.

Bar Terrace Gardens

The lawn and gardens under the Bar Terrace will be open for the Bank Holiday weekend as they will be tidied up but there will be some renovation works still to do over the autumn. The tarmacking of the areas under the access staircase to the Terrace will also need to be done in September so again, thank you for your patience while we block off certain areas to complete this.

Tennis Courts 7-10 and 1-3

We have had these courts resurfaced with a new Plexipave acrylic to eradicate the erratic bounces we had been experiencing. This is the same surface as used for the US and Australian Open championships. These courts will be ready for play by the end of August.

The works team will then move into the Indoor Tennis Centre (ITC) to smooth out the cracks on courts 1-3 and repaint them ready for the indoor winter season.

Visitor Car Park repairs- 18th and 19th August

The Visitor Car Park will be closed on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th August for resurfacing repairs as patches have become quite worn since the car park was opened in 2010. Please can all Members use the Members’ Car Park and the overflow in Rosslyn Park for those two days. The new line-marking works will be completed during a day the following week which will involve a day’s closure as well.

125 Anniversary Celebrations – April to June 2026

As many will know the Club will be celebrating its 125th year next year and the 125 Committee has been working hard to put together a series of events between April and June. Click here to see the the draft programme of events and make a note in your diary.

Each section will host matches against local clubs as well as staging events for Members to win the 125 Rose Bowl trophies reflecting the unique pink Roehampton Club Rose being specially grown to commemorate the 125-year milestone.

The programme will start with the hosting of golf’s Centenary Gold Challenge Cup and Pro Am in April and culminating in a Summer Party for all adult Members in the evening of 27th June 2026 and a Family Day for all Juniors and accompanying adults on Sunday 28th June – both events in our lovely gardens with marquees.

Lloyd Glasspool

Members may remember that Lloyd won the Men’s Doubles titles at Queens Club and Wimbledon this year with his partner Julian Cash and won again in Canada last week beating fellow Member Joe Salisbury and his partner in the final.

Winning 27 out of their last 28 matches and four tournaments in a row, lines up Lloyd to become the Men’s World No 1 doubles player by the end of the week if he does well in Cincinnati.

If he achieves this he will emulate Joe Salisbury’s feat and be the second Club Member to be Men’s Tennis World No 1. He will then try to win the US Open in September.

Tim Russell – Golf Croquet National Doubles Champion

Congratulations to Croquet 1st Team captain Tim Russell who won the Golf Croquet National Doubles title at Budleigh Salterton a few weeks ago with his partner.

Tim is in fine form currently and will be captaining our Team in the Golf Croquet National Club Finals later this month as we try to emulate our winning of the National Association Croquet Club Title last year.
