Welcome back to golf

We look forward to welcoming back Members to golf on Wednesday 2nd December following the latest lockdown. Tee times for next Wednesday are now available via Intelligent Golf.

The following will apply considering that demand for tee times will be very high and the daylight hours available for golf are limited which significantly impacts upon the number of tee times that are available.

1. Tee times

Tee times will remain bookable for the foreseeable future with 10-minute intervals. Tee times can be booked seven days in advance from 07:00 each morning.

2. Number of tee reservations per week

A maximum of TWO tee times booked in a seven day period with the opportunity for players who have booked two rounds already to book remaining free slots on the day, but we will continue to monitor the course usage and relax this when we feel it possible to do so.

3. 9 Hole Golf

Owing to the popularity of 9-hole golf and our desire to accommodate as many golfers as possible, Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays will be set up for this format of play. (Tee times available from 08:30 to allow course set up).

4. 18 Hole Golf

to be played on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays with all golf starting from the 1st tee only. All play will be in groups of 4 and there will be NO 2-ball times. Any player wishing to play only 9 holes should play on 9-hole days BUT if choosing to play on an 18-hole day that they MUST book after 13:00.

5. Anonymous

ALL names of golfers MUST be entered. Tee times where ANONYMOUS is used to block others from joining will be removed. We want four ball slots to be used by four golfers to be fair to other Members.

6. Knockouts and Roll Ups

All will remain suspended until further notice.

7. Guests

One guest per Member will be allowed from Wednesday 16th December

8. Weather delays / Course closures

While Covid-19 restrictions are in place, the following will apply with immediate effect:
In the event of the course being closed due to adverse weather we will endeavour to let Members know as soon as possible (please check the IG app, your emails and the Club’s website).

With gatherings not permitted, play will be by real time tee-time sheet bookings only: i.e. if the course does not open until 10:30 a.m. (say because of fog), it will be the 10:30 a.m. tee-time booking that will be the first tee time of the day. Those who lose their tee-time on such a morning will be able to rebook for later in the day if they wish to play, subject to tee time availability.

On a fog-bound day, play will commence when it is deemed safe to do so and we will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible about the resumption of play. Players who decide to travel to the Club ‘in hope’ must observe social distancing restrictions across the site.

We hope that this will be a rare occurrence, but we must plan and ensure all know what the procedures will be in advance. Members who do normally prefer to play early in the morning should carefully consider this situation for the next few months before booking tee times or perhaps moving bookings (before the day) according to the forecast.

9. General Play scores (formerly Supplementary scores)

Players will continue to be able to enter scores (18 holes and 9 holes). IG – News for further details. N.B. All players MUST register their intent to submit a Supplementary score BEFORE they tee off, at Club Reception or Sports Shop.

10. 18 Hole Midweek Competitions

These will be taking place on 9th December and 13th January. Entry is free and players MUST register in the Sports Shop before play. Players can book a tee time a week in advance. Cards MUST be returned to Club Reception after the round.

11. Temporary tees 10th and 18th

All golfers MUST tee off from the temporary tees that are positioned in front of each of these teeing grounds for the foreseeable future. Reports are still being received from Priory Lodge School and several balls have been struck into their property from the 10th tee. The Club are working with course architect Ken Moodie and the Club’s H&S advisors on solutions that won’t adversely affect the integrity of the hole. However, we must stop balls leaving our property. The 18th tee is being re-constructed and ball stop netting is being added alongside to reduce golf balls being struck into Fairacres.

Members are reminded to ensure that they have their bag tags on display at all times. If you don’t have or have lost your bag tag then please see the Starter.

Please repair your pitch marks (and others if you see them) and please replace your divots. Recovery is slower over Winter, so it is paramount that Members play their part.

Thank you for your support and co-operation in these difficult times. If you have any comments or questions about the above plans, please contact Tristan or one of us.

All the above changes will be closely monitored, and further changes will be made if necessary.

We ask that Members remain patient and understanding during these continued challenging times.
