In Conversation with Dr Giulia Castellani – A Year in the Arctic: A Close-Up Look at the Biggest Ever Polar Expedition

On Wednesday, 28th April, over 40 Members enjoyed the last in our inspirational women series, listening to the experience of Dr Giulia Castellani from the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven, Germany.

Giulia discussed her work on building a new understanding of how polar ecosystems will respond to climate change and her experience on board the icebreaker ‘RV Polarstern’ during the MOSAiC polar expedition.

Here’s what you had to say:

‘I loved her passion about the subject and to learn from someone who has actually been to the ice and experienced it.  ‘

‘I would like to say how much we enjoyed the talk by Dr Giulia Castellani. Neither of us have a scientific background, but we both found it fascinating. She managed to make it both informative and accessible with fascinating slides to illustrate what she was saying. The photos at the end were delightful and brought home in the way that only photos can what it must have been like living and working in the cold and dark.’

‘So interesting to find out how they go about doing research and how they cope at those temperatures!’

Members’ Car Park closure

On Friday 28th May the Members’ Car Park will close at 4pm to set up the car park for the Drive-in Cinema. Kindly park your vehicle in the Visitor Car Park or the overspill in Rosslyn Park. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
