Here’s what you had to say:

I have been totally inspired to re-arrange my sitting room; changing pictures, furniture and ornaments around as a result of yesterday’s Zoom call which suggested changing rooms around to fit in with the different seasons.

Lots of really good ideas and tips for updating one’s home – really useful and extremely well presented

Fast moving, interesting and entertaining speakers, good graphics and content

Virtual Breast Cancer talk with Joanna Franks, 9th February

Roehampton Club Member Joanna Franks – Consultant Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon, talked informatively and honestly about modern breast cancer care. A tough subject to listen to which was very well received by Members. Jo has kindly agreed to repeat the talk on Thursday 15th April.

Here’s what you had to say:

Jo Franks was very informative, spoke clearly and simply, and her diagrams/pictures were excellent.

Really interesting and very good clear presentation by the consultant – it was informative without being frightening

Virtual Tour of Soho, 11th February

Over 60 Members joined fellow Roehampton Club Member and City of Westminster Guide, Rosalind Vincent, for a fascinating virtual tour of Soho. We learnt about the area’s history, its buildings and colourful characters.

Here’s what you had to say:

Very informative and learnt a lot, even though it was my husband who was watching it, but I was so intrigued that I watched it over his shoulder … can’t wait to go to Soho

I enjoyed learning about an area of London I do not know well in a relaxed environment with an interesting presenter.

It showed buildings, alleys and artworks that I had not seen before. Rosalind gave us a well structured tour around Soho with some interesting tales about local characters.

Rosalind was a delight to watch and listen to – full of knowledge!

Pancake Day – Tuesday 16th February

As we couldn’t have our usual Flipping Pancake workshop at the Club, we decided to bring the fun to your home. Our Pancake Kit included Executive Chef Arnaud Delannay’s delicious pancake recipe with tips on adding flavour and fun to the pancakes along with a chef’s hat and Mardi Gras mask to colour and decorate. It was a great way to keep the children entertained during half-term.

Virtual Talk with Viv Haxby – Colourful Consorts Monday 8th March, 6.30pm – free event

Join Member and Blue Badge Guide, Viv Haxby, to hear about four of our most interesting Queen Consorts.

Viv will talk about Caroline, probably the funniest and the cleverest Queen we have had. And Charlotte – so familiar to viewers of Bridgerton … – who proved to be ‘as fertil’ as a turtle’. Alexandra who tolerated the numerous infidelities of her husband and was the original leader of fashion. And Mary who came into her own during the dark days of the First World War, was the first to get ‘down among the people’, and really defined the role for the twentieth century and beyond. All four were expected to produce an heir – and preferably a spare. They all did their best to support their husbands, endorse and promote British products, support charitable initiatives and uphold what were perceived to be the values of the nation. Four very different women who each brought their own distinct style to the role of Consort.
