The 2024/5 season is now finished. Thanks for all your support and for playing matches with such enthusiasm. My thanks also to Matt Fidler for all his help, and Iain Welsh and Matt Woolston for taking over the captaincy. The table continues to be well used and we hope more Snookerers will sign up for competitions next season.
Congratulations to this season’s tournament winners.
Alex Rose won both the leagues and the Atherton Collins scratch knockout. He also leads in best breaks. We must try to beat him next season!
Libby Dand won the Roberta Luxton Trophy in a playoff against Catherine Liddell.
Scott Stanley won last summer’s Roehampton Shield, and Craig de Silva won the winter James Selby Trophy. These are our handicap knockout competitions.
This year’s summer handicap knockout is under way while we are on a break from the leagues.
We played against the RAC last week in the London Cup, please see the match report from new joint-Captain, Iajn Welsh, below.
‘After a comfortable victory in the previous round against The Garrick Club, Roehampton Club faced the daunting task of an away fixture on the heated baize of the RAC Pall Mall; a faster surface than we are used to, and an unfamiliar five table setup. Nonetheless a strong team of regular high break champion Alex Rose, President Andy Nowell, and Co-Captains Iain Welsh and Matt Woolston assembled in their finest robes to take on a very strong RAC side. One glance at the high break honours board showed the opposition were regular scorers in the 70s.
To a man we all battled well but sadly were taken to the proverbial cleaners in our singles games and succumbed to a 4-2 defeat on the night.
Our hosts’ hospitality was both excellent and most appreciated. We look forward to playing invitational matches against them in the coming months and encourage snooker players to indicate their interest in future fixtures.’
