Snooker Blog

Snooker is back and I have been delighted to return to the table already, missing easy pots and giving away silly fouls as if I never left. I am pleased/sorry to say that the break has only made Alex Rose stronger. The table can be booked by all Members on the MyCourts system, and the safety procedures are clearly laid out on the Snooker Room door. Note that no more than two players can be in the room at any time, and that wipes are available in the room for all equipment to be regularly cleaned.

I will not be arranging leagues until the new year as I know many players are not yet ready to return. This will also allow us to concentrate on getting knockout competitions played and will hopefully ease the demand on the table. Well done to Pradip Patel and Scott Stanley for winning the leagues we did get played this season.

I have emailed Members who had already entered the Atherton-Collins Scratch KO to confirm their continued participation and would appreciate prompt replies so we can get the tournament played in good time. Those wishing to play in the Roehampton Shield Handicap KO should contact me by email. I will send a reminder. I will allow plenty of time for both competitions to run. We have decided to cancel the Roberta Luxton Ladies’ KO due to a lack of participants, but I will happily open it up again if there is enough demand. Again, please email me if you are keen. Well done to Louis Pearson for winning the James Selby Winter Handicap KO in March.

Our coach John Woods was due to hold a session in March, but this was cancelled due to lockdown. Alun Hughes is going to chase him up and we will send out an email if John is prepared to return.

If you are reluctant to return to snooker yourself, the World Championship is due to start on July 31st, and there are even limited places for spectators at The Crucible.

Wipe thoroughly, and cue smoothly.
