Senior Golfers Report

As the summer holidays have proceeded, the number of golfers on the course has appeared to reduce. This has meant that the Seniors’ Golf Team matches have not interfered too much with other Members’ golf. The success of our team has continued with home wins against Highgate and Ealing and a draw against Coombe Hill. This leaves the team’s record to date this season as eight wins, two draws and four defeats.

Since the dissolution of the Bowman League, all our matches are friendlies. However, Roehampton Club does have a team in the John Ling Trophy for over 55s from Surrey Clubs. This team led by Neil Anderson is competing for the John Ling Salver. They hosted a team from Leatherhead and had a convincing victory by four matches to one, with all victories by at least a three-hole margin and the loss being by one hole. The team will now take on The Oaks in the semi-final at a neutral venue.

Under the determined leadership of Peter Rold, Roehampton Club is also operating a team for the over eighties. I hope to report on their season in the next edition of the Recorder.

On Wednesday of this week, we were able to hold a seniors’ roll-up with 36 players participating. The competition took the form of a team stableford with Mulligan. Scoring among the teams of three varied from 72 to 90 points. The winning team was Peter Rold, Simon Duvivier and Eiji Wakiwaka and the runners up, just one point behind, was Clive Nicholson, Ken Pratt and Taghi Gorji. Well played.

Seniors should look forward to three competitions in the coming weeks.  The August Grail is on 25 August, the Autumn Medal is on 8 September and the September Grail on 29 September. Sign on Intelligent Golf opens two weeks ahead, All those eligilble should sign up as soon as possible. There will also be two further Roll-Up’s in September on the 1st September and 22nd September. Sign up will open on the 25th August and 15th September respectively.
