Seniors’ Golf Blog

At last, it seems that we are getting back to some of the activities which make us enjoy golf at Roehampton Club so much.  Two competitions from last summer, which were almost completed, were resumed. In the Super Seniors knockout, which is for those over 75, only the final now remains to be played. For the even more venerable, the Seriously Seniors competition for the over 80s was completed with Michael Godfrey defeating Michael Wright in the final.  Well done to both Michaels.

The draw has also taken place for our Summer Four Ball Better Ball competition which will replace our regular knockouts this summer. With a truncated summer season, all matches must be completed to time, otherwise matches may be forfeited.

On Monday, the Seniors team played its first regular fixture, away to Coombe Wood. Although the match was lost by 4 points to 2, our team felt a sense of achievement in playing a match in the restrictive conditions imposed because of COVID-19. Despite the windy almost squally conditions, our team enjoyed eating the sandwiches offered by our hosts outside on their balcony.

Spring Medal

On Wednesday of this week, we played our Spring Medal. With 71 starters, the competition was fierce and I congratulate all those who were placed in the nett and gross competitions.

Conditions were good although the rough in places was quite challenging. As a result, the scoring was not as good as on some previous occasions. All prize winners deserve our congratulations. They were:

Nett Score

1st Earl Knudsen 68 (84)

2nd Hassan Dajani 69 (92)

3rd Richard Lackmann 70 (86)

     Kevin Doyle 70 (94)

Gross score

1st Peter McGovern 80

2nd Roy Martin 82

A trophy will be awarded to the best combined scores for the Spring and Autumn Medals.
