Senior Men’s Golf Chair’s Report

After my sojourn in the summer hemisphere, thank you once again Clive for your support. I am delighted to be back in harness despite the weather. At least we can perhaps look forward to better results in the Six Nations than in the Ashes. I saw every day of two Tests – just four days but at least I was present for a victory in Melbourne. I hope that everyone had a splendid time over Christmas and the New Year. I also hope that play will be possible for all soon with trollies and buggies being permitted. The frost and then heavy rain have not been very helpful in that regard.

I was delighted to see that Brian Hall won the Grail with an excellent 40 points in tricky condition and that Clive Nicholson after all his hard work on my behalf came second.

January result

On a comparatively mild and sunny day on 14th January a few hardy men carried their clubs playing off the forward tees for a change. The winners were Raj Vara, Don McKenzie and Tim Russell with 91 points. Tim had a handy 45 points including an eagle. Brian Hall deserves another mention for a hole in one at the 7th. A superb 140 yard shot with his utility club or so I am told.

Forthcoming events

The Grail in January, weather permitting, is on 28th. Because of the conditions it is 4 clubs and a putter next week 21st January.

We can now sign up for the matches later in the year (March to October). We play home and away against some very nice clubs. It is not costly as the clubs do not charge green fees. There is a charge for lunch. I am arranging the captains of our matches, and they will pick 11 to make up the numbers. I should also mention the Mixed matches. They are good fun too.
