Senior Men’s Golf Chair’s Report

There was no Grail in the last four weeks because of the works to the greens but we have had some enjoyable competitions in good weather. I hope that you agree that the course is in superb condition. Over the summer I have had the pleasure of playing for the Seniors in matches at some well-known Surrey courses. Our fairways are truly magnificent compared to anywhere else we have played.

How many of you have scored an albatross? The temporary greens do give some of us that chance. Congratulations to Trevor Hearle for achieving a hole in one on the 4th. How many of you knew that Trevor scored a Nett Condor? Mr Google has his uses!

July and August results

Texas Scramble is one of the most popular team formats. Our July competition was no exception. There were four scores of Nett 60. Working out countback taking into account handicaps took some time and double checking. Peter Ryan-Bell, Clive Nicholson and Nigel Karmel won on countback with Peter Sabine, David Todd and Egbert Veldman the runners up.

David Bouch, Terry Dillon and Peter Bateman won the Yellow Ball competition with 125 points. It was an extraordinary team performance. All three had gross rounds of 85 or lower. David Bouch beat his age by four shots – what an achievement. The runners up were Nicholas Brown, Ian Taylor-Restell and Andrew Hine with 123 points.

Michael Kay, Peter Bateman, and Trevor Hearle won the Four Clubs and a Putter competition with 88 points. Trevor’s six points on hole four no doubt helped. The runners up were David Bouch, Gilbert Ellacombe and Simon Duvivier with 85 points. In third place were Nicholas Brown, Duncan Christie-Miller and Douglas Millar with 84 points on countback.

The Waltz competition was won by Brian Hall, David Paterson and Trevor Hearle with 87 points. The runners up on countback were Nicholas Brown, Martin Flint and Martin Waller with 78 points.

Forthcoming Events

We are still hoping that the course will be fully open for the Grail at the very end of August. We may also be able to make use of the balconies which look better and better each time I visit the Club.

On Thursday 4th September the Club is hosting the Salute the Services Charity Golf Day. Duncan Christie- Miller organises an annual event to support services charities. This year’s beneficiary is London’s Air Ambulance. This merits our support ideally by playing but also, if not in that way, by way of a donation. I am looking forward to the day. It is a round of Stableford Golf followed by a two-course lunch. More details are available at reception or from Matt or Oli.
