Senior Men’s Golf Chair’s Report

With Winter Rules now in force it must mean that there is less run on the ball and more danger in the rough so keeping the ball on the fairway is all the more important (preferably the one you are playing on).

Some of you will understand the import of that comment having seen some of my drives on holes 5 and 9. Looking at the results which I will come to shortly it is clear that the more senior among us have learnt that lesson. Some even try to impart their knowledge and experience to others. It is therefore perhaps unsurprising that a number of the prizes have gone to those with most golfing experience, David Bouch leads the way with a number of prizes and Danny Gesua had an incredible 44 points in the Grail beating David’s 42 points

September and October Results

There were two outstanding rounds in the September Grail. Danny Gesua triumphed with 44 points. I was delighted to present him with the trophy (pictured). David Bouch came second with 42 points. Bob Storer was third with a commendable 39 points.

David Bouch, Tim Russell and Peter Rogan won the Waltz competition with a score of 80 points.

Our most popular competition with all 10 slots filled is the Texas Scramble This was won by  David Bouch, Raj Vara and Terry Dillon  with a nett 56. The runners up were Brian Hall, Douglas Millar and Gilbert Ellacombe with a nett 59. Raj was optimistic about his chances before setting off from the changing room . He is in very good form and was unlucky to miss a hole in one by 2 inches on the 13th. His driving was exemplary, I am told.

Forthcoming Events

We have the shotgun [apologies for the typo last month – we are not having a Japanese event] start for the Grail on 29 October followed by the AGM at 2pm. I am presently writing my report on the year incorporating results over the last year and the matches for 2026.

In December we have our annual lunch after a 9-hole competition in the morning. That takes place this year on 10th December. I hope that there will be a good attendance. Clive Nicholson has kindly agreed to preside.

I should also mention the Golf Dinner on Friday 21  November. Prizes will be handed out and there will be at least one if not two tables for Seniors. The speaker is Iain Carter. For my part I think that he is an outstanding broadcaster. I expect that he will be good value at the dinner too.
