Senior Men’s Golf Chairman’s Report

The autumn weather has hit Roehampton Club with a vengeance. What Peter Bradburn has been warning about has truly come to pass, with the course being inundated with rain over a protracted period. This fully justifies the works planned for next summer, when three greens will be given enhanced drainage in late July and August better to withstand the periods of intense rain.

I was fortunate that last week I was able to spend a week in Marbella, playing two rounds in 20-degree sunshine, with drives bounding down the fairways whenever I was able to find them off the tee. The Marbella Golf Country Club was a far different prospect from what was on offer in southwest London!

I was impressed by the number of hardy souls who played last week in a team Stableford competition. Many congratulations to the winning team of Julian Bass, Peter Bateman and Terry Dillon who carded a total of 79 points. This was comfortably ahead of the team of runners up comprising Hassan Dajani, David Paterson and Bill Phelan who scored 71 points.

Yesterday there was another good turnout taking advantage of the best weather of the week for the Senior Roll Up team Stableford with yellow ball, also Eclectic Qualifying, enabling those who entered to get some good scores in before the dead of winter. The field included mostly teams of four but those in a three had some extra points added.

The winning team with a score of 117 points (which included 6 bonus points for being a team of three) were David Moss, Gordon Fox and Peter Bateman. Many congratulations to them.

The player with the best individual Stableford score was recorded Nicholas Brown with 38 points. Special congratulations to Nick as this was the first time that he was responsible for organising the event with Louis Laville and Simon Baker.

We are sending out this week the notice of the Seniors’ Christmas nine holes and lunch on Wednesday 13th December. Sign up early to gain your place. It also helps if when signing up you indicate whether there is a particular table at which you wish to be placed.
