Senior Golfers Report

Despite the disappointment of full reopening of facilities not being possible on 21 June, assisted by the Club, the seniors are beginning to enjoy the season.

The final of the 2020 Super Seniors knockout was finally completed with Hassan Dajani defeating Simon Duvivier. Congratulations to both players.

In a match against Royal Mid Surrey, the seniors defeated our hosts by 6 matches to nil. The match was played in overpowering heat  but Roehampton prevailed against a team of largely younger players with lower handicaps.

In response to my pleas in the Recorder and by email for seniors to join the match squad and to declare availability for matches on IG, there has been an influx of volunteers. We will do our best to give as many people as possible a game in the remaining fixtures.

Many seniors supported the Ping 4 ball better ball mixed competition last Tuesday. It was a worthwhile addition to the calendar in a year when other events have not been able to go ahead.

Finally, the seniors held an experimental ‘roll up’ competition on 16th June.  Twenty-eight seniors were able to play in this test event with a random draw for partners in the seven allocated slots. The scoring was not as good as we have come to expect with only one player getting a score more than 34 points, Michael Godfrey with 38 points. Well played Michael. The team scores were quite closely bunched, with two groups totalling 95 points from their three best scores. The tie was broken by the winners having the best fourth score. That team was Alan Jenkins, Nigel Karmel, Nigel Brown and Douglas Millar
