Senior Golfer Report

Autumn is traditionally the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. This year the weather has been more like summer, at least until this week. The Seniors have certainly made use of the favourable weather for our golf team to win another two matches, away at Malden by 4½ to 1½, and at home against Richmond by 5 to 1. This leaves our record this season as 10 victories, four losses and two draws.

The John Ling trophy team has also progressed in their pursuit of the John Ling Salver. Neil Anderson reports: ‘We played The Oaks in the semi-final of the John Ling Salver at Hersham Golf Club, and emerged with a 3-2 victory. While not as convincing as some of our earlier results, it was satisfying that we could grind out a victory while conceding a significant number of shots to our opponents, and perhaps not playing at our best. A good team effort. We await information from the county as to our opponents, location and date of the final.’

The September Grail was held yesterday in sunny but more cold and blustery weather than we have been accustomed to. We were reduced to a field of 48 golfers, smaller than in recent months.

A huge congratulations to Peter Sabine for scoring 38 Stableford points and winning the Seniors Grail!
