Reformer Pilates Q&A

What is Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates is similar yet very different to mat based Pilates. Reformer Pilates is done using the reformer bed and is generally more intense and more dynamic than mat based Pilates. Extra resistance is added via the use of pullies and springs which form part of the reformer bed.

It is a full body workout that strengthens multiple muscle groups simultaneously, whilst easing pressure on the joints. Similar to mat based Pilates the focus is on alignment and technique. When using the reformer, we will build on a greater range of precise movements to give a deeper muscle burn, stimulate the core, upper and lower body. This class is designed for anybody and everybody – with modifications to suit all abilities.

What will an induction look like?

The induction will introduce you to the equipment, how to use it correctly and some of the basic exercises that you will find in a reformer class. The induction will be at a slower pace to provide an experience as to what to expect from a reformer class while still working the muscles!

Will I need an induction if I have done a Reformer Pilates class before?

Yes, all Members are required to complete an induction to be able to attend a Reformer Pilates class. Reformer beds vary in their use and set up, so it is essential all Members complete an induction to understand the beds’ safety requirements. This guarantees that all Members have a basic understanding when attending a reformer class to ensure everyone benefits during the class.

Induction Availability

Inductions take place each week on Sundays at 3pm.

Is it easy to learn Reformer Pilates?

While the Reformer bed can look daunting, it is a relatively easy piece of equipment to use. The instructors will be on hand in small classes to ensure the moves are carried out with the correct technique and focus to ensure you get the most from the class.

What do I need for Reformer Pilates classes?

♥ Comfortable clothes that will keep you cool during the class
♥ Pilates socks (grippy) – available to purchase in the Sports Shop or Health Club Reception
♥ Water bottle to stay hydrated
♥ Long hair tied back
♥ Arrive early to set up your bed ready for the start of the class

Why is the Club charging for Reformer Classes?

The Club has invested extensively in both equipment and Pilates Reformer training to be able to offer this specialist class to Members.

How do I book an induction or Reformer Class?

How many people are in a class?

Classes will have a maximum of four people.

How do I pay for my class?

All classes must be paid for on arrival at the Health Club Reception. If you have purchased a pack of classes or sessions, each session will be deducted when you are arrived for each Class or one-to-one session.

I entered the fitness industry as an exercise to music instructor over 20 years ago. In 2009 I wanted to expand my personal skills and versatility and engage with a much wider range of members – age, fitness levels, experience and goals.

I trained as a Pilates instructor and fell in love with it instantly, it combines strength, posture, co-ordination and focus. Reformer Pilates takes this passion to the next level. By participating you will reach your full body potential, improve posture and achieve optimum physical performance and a balanced mind.
