Racquet Director’s Diary

The Club Championships

Entries for the Club Championships have been good for lots of events. Unfortunately, I have had to cancel a few events with low entries. These include the handicap Men’s and Ladies’ Doubles, the Ladies handicap Singles, the over 60’ Men’s and Ladies Doubles and the over 45’s Ladies Singles. All Members who have entered events that are running will receive the full tournament schedule and draws early next week by email.  The tournament will start on Sunday the 30th August and finals day will be on Sunday 6th September.

ITC

You may have noticed that the ITC is closed for maintenance this week. The courts are being repainted, so they look fresh ready for the autumn term. Courts are due to reopen on Saturday 29th August.

Junior programme

All renewals have now been sent out for the junior programme. The early bird discount deadline is the 31st August so if you haven’t already enrolled your children in the programme please do so before this date. This year all Juniors who sign up to a tennis group lesson will receive a free Roehampton Club t-shirt.

Social Sessions

Club night on Wednesdays 6pm until 7:30pm and Club Afternoon on Saturdays 3pm until 4:30pm are now back up and running. The sessions both take place on the grass courts near the members car park (courts 25 – 28). For both sessions you will need to call Reception (020 8480 4200) and book each week, so we do not exceed numbers. All other social Club sessions I am planning to restart in September. Further information will be available in the next Roehampton Club Recorder.

Ball machines

Some Members may have noticed that the Lobster (red) Ball Machine on court 11 has now been removed along with the small shed it lived in. This was to make room for the netting so the court can be used as a Multi-use Games Area as well as a tennis court. This court will still be used for the black ball machine. Please note that this machine is now in use and can be booked at Reception. However please make sure you wipe the machine down with sanitiser after use. Please also continue to use the hand sanitiser upon entering and exiting all courts.

The Club now has a new portable ball machine (The Slinger). This can be booked and collected at Reception and used on smash court 6. Please only used this machine on court 6 as this court has a dividing net therefore will not interrupt Members playing on next-door courts. The machine is very easy to set up and use. For more information visit https://slingerbag.com/

A simple set of ‘how to use’ instructions can be found in the bag. If you have any issues using the machine, please ask a member of the tennis team to assist you.

Please note: – the ball machines cannot not be used in wet weather.
