Roehampton Club Senior Tour Pro Am 2019

Roehampton Club was delighted to host its fifth consecutive Senior Tour Pro Am on 1st and 2nd September where a host of stars from the European Senior Tour Pros showed off their skills to Members in a fun, relaxed but competitive Pro Am. Twenty one teams made up of three Members accompanied by a top European Senior Tour Professional took part in the tournament to play for a variety of prizes and titles. We welcomed back many familiar faces from previous years as well as David Lynn who returned to defend his title. We were also delighted to welcome Bob May for the first time (runner up 2000 USPGA to Tiger Woods);  Rob Lee (Sky TV pundit and former European Tour player) and Gary Evans who had recently turned 50 to join the tour.

We also raised over £1,000 in memory of the late Gordon Brand Jnr a two-time previous player in the Pro Am and who was due to play in this year’s event but who sadly passed away last month. The Club added a further £500 towards Gordon’s chosen charity.

The excitement built from the Sunday evening draw when the Professionals drew their Member team from the hat and discussed strategy for Monday’s play over a curry supper, followed by a most entertaining Q & A with  Robert Lee, James Kingston, Chris Williams and Bill Longmuir. Monday morning saw a Shotgun start to the tournament as the teams set out to tackle the beautifully presented course painstakingly prepared by Ashley Allpress and his team.

This year for the first time we saw a tie for first place between Gary Evans and Stephen Dodd with both players carding rounds of 64. Gary reflected on his first visit to Roehampton Club calling the course a ‘hidden jewel’ and the ‘greens phenomenal’.
