Pickleball

Member Pickleball Court Bookings

Pickleball courts will be bookable to Members each week now until 28th August on Thursday (9am-9pm) and Friday (noon-4pm). Courts will be marked out with tape on Indoor Tennis Centre (ITC) court 1 and are bookable 7 days in-advance.

Autumn term – 3 September to 11 December 2026

Pickleball takes place on Indoor Tennis Court 1.
Please note NO SESSIONS on Thursday 29th Friday 30th October.

Thursday Ladies morning 9 – 10.30am

A Ladies morning for all. There will be a mix of social and competitive matches. This session also has the opportunity to bring new players into the game where they can learn rules and how to play on a separate court allowing regular players to continue enjoying games.

Thursday Open morning 10.30 – 12pm

A morning open to those who have played regularly and are more intermediate players. This aims to be a more competitive Morning where all players must know how to play and score.
If players are newer to the game, the coach has the right to ask players to play in alternative sessions.

Thursday Pickleball Club Night 6.30 – 8.30pm

This session is for players of intermediate or higher standard.
The coach reserves the right to ask players to attend another session should their level not currently be high enough.

Friday rollup Noon – 1pm

Bookable via the Pickleball WhatsApp
A session for all players who know how to score and play. No pre-set matches. Paul will send out a poll early in the week to gauge weekly interest.
On the morning players will mix around and Paul will look to put matches together which are enjoyable and competitive.

Friday Drills session with Carolyn Laville 2:30-4pm

Bookable via the Pickleball WhatsApp poll
This drill session is suitable for players of all levels and focuses on a variety of drills to help refine and develop a full repertoire of shots.
Please note that this session does not include matchplay.

Member Pickleball Court Bookings

Thursday and Friday there will be 4 Pickleball courts available to book via Mycourts.
The Club will be offering four temporary marked up pickleball courts. Courts will be marked out with tape on Indoor Tennis Centre (ITC) court 1.
Courts are bookable from Thursday 9th April and bookable 7 days in-advance.
Thursday Noon to 3:30pm.
Thursday 8.30pm to 10pm.
Friday 1pm to 4pm.

On top of the organised sessions please take this opportunity to play more, try the game for the first time or introduce other Members to Pickleball.

With Member court bookings open and to assist Members with arranging games between themselves, there is a WhatsApp group created for this purpose. ‘Picklers General Play’

Ideal for those wanting games, fun/social hits or needing 1 (even 3) more to join to play. Please use this group for this purpose.

Eye Protection

There have been a number of incidents at other Pickleball Clubs where players have been hit on the eye, with either a ball or a paddle.
We strongly suggest that all players wear protective eye cover at sessions.
This can be spectacles through to facemasks, the choice is yours, but we ask that you try to protect yourselves and your eyes.
We cannot make it compulsory but want to at least suggest you  wear some sort of eye protection.

Pickleball Champions League

 

Last week, Charles and Frances Bowen-Rayer were in Malaga for the WPC (World Pickleball Championships) European Open and the first PCL (Pickleball Champions League).

 

Charles represented England in the European Championship League (PCL). He won both his doubles matches vs Sweden and Netherlands, but the team were knocked out the quarter-finals by the Netherlands.

 

Frances won three medals in the age‑group singles events (50+ 3.5 silver and 4.5 gold) and a bronze in the 35+ 4.5 doubles.

Siena Pickleball Open 2025

 

6th and 7th December saw Roehampton Club Members James Chaudry and Frances and Charles Bowen-Rayner  competing in the Siena Pickleball Open in Italy.

Triple Crown Winner

 

James managed the wonderful feat of becoming a Triple Crown Winner following wins in the Open Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

The weekend included winning 4 group stage matches to make the round of 16 in each event.

In singles, James progressed to win the title by beating a young Italian (R16), #1 Egyptian junior (QF), Josh Bright (SF), and number 1 Italian Singles Player Matteo Cugliari in the Final.
The Men’s Doubles knockout stages, partner Charles played some incredibly important points to help them beat 3 Italian pairs (including their #1 national team pair in the semis). The final saw a three-set win against Josh Bright and Belgian #1 Boris Paque in the final.

The mixed knockout stages, Thaddea Lock and James beat four Italian pairs (also including the #1 national team pair) on the way to securing the trophy.

Charles Bowen-Rayner won the Men’s Doubles title alongside fellow Roehampton Club Member James Chaudry.

 

From Charles:

 

The men’s doubles final was so much fun to play in. Getting to play alongside James was really good fun and such a great experience and such good pickleball!

 

I went unbeaten to win my singles group, with big wins over Josh Bright, Italian No.1 Matteo Cugliari, and Noah Washington (NEL) in the round of 16 before narrowly losing in the quarterfinals. 

 

Finishing off the tournament with Frances in our mixed group where we won two out of three, including a great win over Belgian No.1 Boris Paque—before having to leave to catch a flight unable to play in the knockout rounds. Overall, it was such a fun weekend on court, especially getting to play alongside James.

Frances Bowen-Rayner won Bronze in the Women’s Over 40s.

Frances commented:

Delighted to win bronze in the o40s women’s doubles.

I was actually more chuffed with my fourth in the singles despite losing the semi-final and a tight bronze medal match against some very strong Italians

It was such a lovely fun weekend and amazing to watch Charles and James playing so very well together.

My highlight though was playing with Charles in the pro mixed doubles and having so much fun on the court and winning some big games.

National Pickleball Open 2025

Roehampton Club Member, James Chaudry, competed in the 2025 National Pickleball Open Singles Tournament.

 

An overview of James’s tournament saw him defeat 5 out of 5 opponents in the group stages and going on to ⁠win the semi-final against a new up and comer 15-5.
The ⁠final, played as a best of three games, saw James up against Tom Turney.

 

A high quality performance from James gave him a 11-2 11-5 win to claim the singles National Pickleball title. It also completed the nationals ‘triple crown’ having previously won men’s doubles and mixed doubles in the same calendar year.  Congratulations to James.

England: European Champions!

 

On 23/24 November 2024 Roehampton Club Member James Chaudry and our then Golf and Games Manager Louis Laville, were a part of the England Team, representing the country in the European Championships in a team of 12.

 

Mixed Doubles took place on the Saturday and England played unbelievably well all day to go unbeaten in both Open and Senior Open to win 2 Mixed Doubles Golds. This put England in a strong position but still had work to do on Sunday in Gender Doubles.

 

The team pulled through on Sunday, and despite not winning a gold on the Sunday, all four divisions won silver! The only team to make it to every Final, gave England enough points to win the European Championships!

A huge congratulations to the team, the support from Roehampton Club Members throughout the weekend was fantastic!
