PhotoClub Focus

Classes

PhotoClub has been continuing to have active lessons with Nigel Wilson running two classes on a Thursday throughout April and May.

The day out this term has been to Ham House, which was enjoyed and gave good photographic opportunities both inside and round the gardens.

PhotoClub Walk:

Blackfriars to Clerkenwell

PhotoClub went on a very interesting walk from Blackfriars to Clerkenwell lead by Paul Tallin along the route of the River Fleet, which although not visible but its progress into the Thames clearly affected how  the land around it was developed.

We learnt about many historical facts and gossip surrounding the river over the centuries.

125 Art and Photo Exhibiton

PhotoClub has been participating in Roehampton Club’s 125 year celebrations.

We have joined up with the Art Group to hang 125 images that are representative of the Club’s activities past and present. There is a wonderful mixture of art and photography being shown in the Reading Room, Health Club, just outside the door to the Fountain Room and the door to the Bar.

This exhibition will run till Friday 26th June. Do make sure you visit and have a look. There are also six montages of art and photography outside on the Piazza – do take a look and enjoy the creative skills of members of the Art Group.

Dates to look forward to

PhotoClub lecture

Tuesday 30th September with Bill Ward, actor and photographer

Bill Ward is a multi award winning British actor and photographer, born and raised in Newcastle-upon-Tyne

He is also known for his photography and specialises in creative photography, and is particularly drawn to water.  A lifelong traveller, he’s interested not just in the places he goes, but the time that he spends in them. It’s this that forms the basis of his work: specifically how it felt to spend this particular time, with this particular place.

As an actor, he has performed in over 30 Television shows and Films, and over 50 Plays since turning professional in 2000.

He is probably best known for playing the badly behaved builder Charlie Stubbs in the UK TV show Coronation Street, a role he played for over 400 episodes and three and a half years, and for which he won a number of awards.  His Theatre work includes multiple roles in London’s West End (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Spamalot, Million Dollar Quartet, Viva Forever), UK Tours (The Glee Club, Shakespeare in Love, Legally Blonde, Look Back in Anger), Rep Theatre (Bristol Old Vic, Bath Theatre Royal, Manchester Royal Exchange, Northern Stage, Theatre Clwyd), New Writing (National Theatre Studio, Battersea Arts Centre, White Bear) and Off West End (Southwark Playhouse).

Constantly in search of peace and quiet, his photography is a response, and in many ways an antidote, to the time he spends as an actor working in the public eye.
