iPadel Finals Weekend Match Report

Having only had Padel courts at Roehampton Club for less than a year we were very proud to win the Men’s London iPadel League at our first attempt.
This lead us to the finals weekend at Limpsfield Club where all the winners of the various regions around the country competed in a knockout tournament to find the Nationwide winner.

Roehampton Club’s first match was against Middlesbrough. The team consisted of myself, Craig de Silva (Captain), Nick Yates, Fred Warneryd and Jorge Alcover and over the course of the league season both Rasmus Svantesson and Darren Boner had been involved.
Both Roehampton Club pairs won their matches easily and progressed to the semi-finals to face Oxshott. Nick and I won our match but Fred and Jorge were facing a very tough pair and lost narrowly in a championship tie-break. This meant we needed to play a championship tie-break with one player from each pair. Jorge and I took on the challenge, played very well and won it 10-6 to make it through to the final.

In the final, we were up against Solihull. Their team consisted of some very young and experienced players and both pairs were too good for us. We were unbelievably proud to make it to the final and with more time on the court and more help from our great coach, Chris Salisbury, we hope to go one step further next year!

Please use the Padel rating system to give a guide of standard.

Overview –
All leagues are for doubles play.
The League provides a great opportunity to play a variety of players throughout the year. We aim for our leagues to be fun, friendly and competitive.
Players have approximately six weeks to complete all their matches before league positions are adjusted based on results.
The players are asked to be on time and ready to play with appropriate clothing, shoes and balls.
Leagues are available for all Members and standards of players.
Matches will be to the best of three sets, with a tie-break at 6 games all for sets 1 and 2. The third set will be played as a Championship tie-break.

Members’ Club Championship

The Padel Club Championship will run from 15th August with finals day on Saturday 3rd September – please put the date in your diary now. There will be a number of categories to choose from.

Teams

National League:

The Club initially entered two teams into the National League in 2021. For 2022 we are looking to enter 3 Men’s teams and 1 Ladies team.
Please let me know if you would be interested in playing for the Club.

Matches will be played on the weekend of 28 and 29 May.

iPadel League:

The Club also entered the iPadel winter league.
The Ladies Team, captained by Astrid Drayson have played 4 matches in a box league and are currently third against some strong opposition with two games to play. I’m confident we will only get stronger with experience gained and more Members playing.

The Men’s team, captained by Craig de Silva, have exceeded expectations, winning their box league group and making the iPadel league finals on 20th March where the top 8 teams from around the country will compete for the Winter iPadel title. The finals will be played at Rocks Lane Chiswick so please do go and support the team if you can.

Padel Tour Abroad

Would you be interested in a Padel tour abroad to play other Clubs? If yes please register your interest with Paul.
We are investigating options for Spring/summer 2023 and if you would like to discuss this please do contact Paul directly.

Polite notice

Again the use of courts has been extremely popular and hopefully the warmer spring/summer weather will see an increase in court use.
We want you to fully enjoy your game of Padel but please respect our neighbours at Fairacres by keeping noise to a minimum.
