Senior Golfers Report

Invitation Day – 29th June

35 Seniors have already joined up to play in our Invitation Day on 29th June. This means that our capacity for the shotgun start is largely filled. I invite those seniors who wish to play to sign up as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Mixed PING 4BBB Competition – Wednesday 1st June

Last week many seniors took part in the Ping Mixed Four ball better ball competition. This was closely contested with four pairs tying at the top of the leaderboard, scoring 41 Stableford Points!

The successful teams were: Danny Gesua and Astrid Drayson, Don McKenzie and Liz Collins, Jinni Featherstone-Witty and David Moss and Bengt Grundberg and Anna Rowland-Clark.

The winning team on countback (Back 6!) was Danny Gesua and Astrid Drayson – congratulations!

On Wednesday of this week, we played a team Texas Scramble competition.

Congratulations to Nigel Karmel, Mel Davies and Ken Ukoku, winning with a nett 56!

When retrieving my ball from the greenside bunker on the 13th, I paid meticulous attention to raking the bunker. Unfortunately, when I clambered out of the bunker, I noticed that my motor-powered trolley advancing towards the 14th tee. A stiff-limbed old man (me!) chased but failed to stop it from rolling across the tee box and into the ditch! Fortunately, none of my playing partners were quick enough to record my embarrassment for posterity!

Wednesday mornings

I have noticed that in the past two or three weeks, the numbers of seniors ‘rolling up’ has been lower than we have become used to since the pandemic. It may be that, as restrictions have eased, seniors have a wider choice of activities and other ways of spending their time. But on Wednesday mornings the tee is reserved for seniors and it is gratifying to all those involved to have a good attendance. It is also even more satisfying for those who win our competitions to be successful in a big field!  I ask all seniors to sign up to Wednesday golf whenever they can.
