Men’s Golf Captain’s Blog

Merry Christmas everyone.

As the winter rains truly set in the hardy golfers of the men section have not been distracted and still are out in full force.

The December Stableford took place on the 2nd in cold conditions and finished even colder with many Members requesting hot beverages after their rounds.

James Rowlinson came in with 38 points to take first place followed by Samuel Lynes and Peter Bateman on 36 each on count back. Well done gentlemen with good scores in difficult conditions.

The last roll up of 2023 which was run by Gerry Dennigan. It was held the following day with five players turning up for a fun round. It was encouraging to see some relatively new Members turning up and participating which is a great way of meeting Members.

James Bushell took the honours with a 38 followed by James Lawson on 36 points.

We had a Junior Cadet match on that Sunday with Zaal Owen playing off an impressive handicap of 4 winning with 19 points. This was followed by Charles Greenwood with 13 points and Tatijana Dupont-Liot with 10 points. This is played over the front nine.

Well done to everyone and a big thank you to Ricky’s team for organising this match.

We have an exciting end of the season with the much-anticipated Mixed Christmas Charity Competition being played on Saturday 16th. A shotgun start playing off the red tees with the best two cards from four to count on Par 4s and 5s. All scores on Par 3s and the 18th with an additional incentive that all scores on the 18th will be doubled. Be aware however Men are to play hole 10 as a Par 4.

As par of the season of giving Santa has ordained that each player will receive one mulligan, to be used wisely. There’ll be a separate prize for nearest the pin in two on the 1st and 18th.

This will be followed by prize giving and an auction of various goodies with the proceeds going to the Captain’s Charity, Small Steps.

Then on Boxing Day we have our Christmas Foursomes.

On Saturday 6th January 2024 the fun Four Club Stableford challenge will take place.

I would like to wish you all a wonderful, peaceful and healthy Christmas and look forward to seeing most of you on Saturday.
