Mah Jong Update

Mah Jong is celebrating its first year at Roehampton Club

It’s been a great first year, and the Mah Jong community at the Club continues to grow. Our latest cohort of 21 enthusiastic beginners is getting to grips with Pungs, Kongs, Chows and Wriggly Snakes. In total, 60 Members have now attended our beginners’ classes, and there is clearly an appetite for more!

An advanced class is also underway, with players developing their strategy and getting to grips with such intriguing aspects of the game as robbing the Kong and letting off cannons.

Come and play

We now have friendly Mah Jong sessions every week:
Tuesdays 1–3pm
Wednesdays 4–6pm – Tea-time Mah Jong

And from 2nd November, we’ll be trialling fortnightly Monday evening sessions, 7–9pm.

A dedicated WhatsApp group helps organise bookings for practice sessions. Games can be played with 2–4 people, and the Club has four Mah Jong sets available to borrow, so you can play in the gardens or Club Café.

We play British Rules Mah Jong, and Mah-Jong (Know the Game) by Gwyn Headley is an excellent and very readable reference to have alongside you while playing.

Interested?

Whether you’re a complete beginner, an experienced player, or simply curious to find out what all the Pungs and Kongs are about, we’d love to hear from you.
