Lady Golf Captain’s Blog

After a very dry spring and early summer, we’ve finally had some much-needed rain. The fairways have quickly returned to a lush green carpet, and we hope the renovated greens continue to recover well and will be in great shape for September. Although there have been no major golf events this month, there have been plenty of competitions to keep us entertained.

Team Results

Our teams are still going strong in Surrey, good luck in the upcoming rounds.

Centenary Bowl

We’re through to the semi-final – opponent TBC.

Hicks Trophy

We are into the semi-final vs Burhill.

Wallis Cup

The Wallis Team enjoyed a fantastic run this season, reaching the quarter-finals. After an impressive 4–1 win at home, they faced a tough match away to Tandridge and, despite the result, can be proud of their achievement. Many thanks to inspiring Captain Lucinda and brilliant Vice-Captain Pippa, and huge congratulations to every player for their contribution to a great campaign.

Surrey Scratch Foursomes

Issy Simpson and Nicki Fillingham reached the quarter-finals but were unfortunately defeated away by Walton Heath. Great effort!

Daily Mail Foursomes

Cathy Staveley and Andreina Townsend had a phenomenal run, reaching the sixth round. Well played both!

Captain and Pro Match

Wes and I were challenged by Katy Preston and Kasandra Spalding. They are such tough competitors; they were too good for us. They won 2/1. Thank you for your generosity and for a fun match!

Friendly Matches

• RMS (Away) – Roehampton Club win: 3½ – ½

• West Byfleet (Away) – Friendly draw

Information and Reminders

Senior Ladies 70+ Roll-Ups

Following requests, we are trialling 9-hole roll-ups for senior ladies aged 70+ on selected Tuesdays after some 18-hole competitions.
• Open to all with a handicap index
• Sign-up in advance required
• Tee times / groupings published the Friday before
• Unused times will be released to general Members
These events won’t clash with major competitions or existing 9-hole events.

Schedule:

• Tuesday 12th August – Senior 70+ Roll-Up
• Tuesday 19th August – 9-Hole Stableford (Non-qualifying, Open to All)
• Tuesday 26th August – Senior 70+ Roll-Up
• Tuesday 30th September – Senior 70+ Roll-Up

We hope these additions encourage more members to enjoy a sociable and shorter round of golf.

Changes to Handicap Requirements

A reminder: from the AGM, players will need THREE qualifying rounds within the previous 12 months to enter Trophy and Knockout Competitions. This aligns us with Surrey Women’s Golf regulations.
• Players without three qualifiers can still play but cannot win a trophy
• No entry into knockouts without three qualifying rounds
Plan ahead – if you’d like to enter the Spring Knockouts, consider playing now while the weather is favourable rather than scrambling for qualifying rounds in February!
The Committees will regularly review this policy.

Pace of Play

As we enjoy the busy summer season, please be mindful of maintaining a good pace of play.
• Keep up with the group in front, not just ahead of the group behind.
• Be ready to play when it’s your turn.
• If you fall behind, invite faster groups to play through.
A good pace helps everyone enjoy their round — thank you for your cooperation!

Payment for Competitions

Intelligent Golf has been updated this year, and it is now much easier to prepay for competitions. Please do prepay, so that staff do not have to manually take fees from your card. It is now not possible to enter your score on the Intelligent Golf terminal until payment is taken.

Wishing you all a lovely summer filled with good golf and great company!
