Ladies’ Golf Report

A plea from Peter Bradburn

Ladies, please repair. Walking the course recently there are a huge number of un-repaired divots on fairways and pitch marks on greens, where no effort has been made to make a repair. As the ground is so soft, even the slightest scuff becomes a scar on the greens and will take longer to repair. Thank you.

The Dennigan St Patrick’s Day competition was a fantastic success however despite Bengt O’Grundberg and the like and the leprechauns not doing what they are supposed to do so Ireland lost the tankard. Well done Captain.

Team news

Pearson – Captain Tricia Morgan

The team played their first-round knockout match at home on Monday against Burhill – the team of Debs Good, Liz Collins, Angie Atkins, Henrietta O’Shea, Caroline Dewar, Claire Martin and Louise Tierney unfortunately lost 5/2 but who knows if the competition will be completed this year.

Derry – Captain Jane Peel

The team of Jo, Lorna and Jane won 2/1 away to Croham Hurst in their second knockout match. Their home leg is due to be on 1st April, their Captain’s birthday so I hope they give her a good present!  A win would take them to the final.

HICKS – Captain Jane Peel

Well, despite all the global uncertainties we managed to beat Wimbledon Park 4/1 today. Sorry WP members!
A big thank you to all who played, Jo, Lorna, Ali, Caroline and me. But the biggest thank you must go to Caroline who was in the team, then out of the team then back in again! And winning.Their away match is due to be played on 18th April.

CENTENARY BOWL – Captain Charlotta Lyckeus

The team were runners up last year. Their first match is away to Tandridge on 26th March. The team will be Charlotta, Heather Webber, Danit, Debs Goode and Viv Harris very best of luck.

WALLIS CUP – Captain Emma Angood

This was a new competition last year, named after the Surrey President Rosemary Wallis. It is for handicaps 21 – 36 and this year a plate competition has been introduced.

Their first match is due to be on 23rd March away to Banstead Good luck to Caroline Dewar, Henrietta O’Shea, Louise Tierney, Catherine Dando and Emma Angood.

I want to thank the Team Captains for all the work they do behind the scenes, particularly this year with the playing conditions. They are continuously having to arrange and re-arrange dates and then find players who can play on the re-arranged dates. Without them this Club would find it very hard to enter all these wonderful Surrey competitions.

Competition postponed

Emma Angood and Henrietta O’Shea are awaiting their next round opponents.

Club Roll-ups

Cancelled until further notice.

The Vice-Captain played in an early-morning Club Roll Up two weeks ago and is raving about her experience! It is an easy way of putting a card in, remembering that with the handicap changes in November your best eight cards will be used out of 20 to calculate your new handicap.

Club Day

Golf was played, lunch was cancelled.

1st – Libby Dand, Siobain Rolston, Jane Terry and Nicole Pearson, 40pts

2nd – Angela Atkins, Gill Griffiths, Henrietta O’Shea and Patricia Morgan, 38pts

3rd – Christine Hugill, Jenna Archer, Debs Good and Lou Wills, 37pts c/b

Tuesday Stableford

Another 9-hole carry only non-qualifying competition due to the ground water conditions and I must admit it was very soggy.  Three amazing scores, well done to

1st – Claire Martin 20 points

2nd – Astrid Woloszczuk 19 points on count back

3rd – Liz Dodds 19 points

Away Day 23rd June

– Bramley … will it happen?

This is always a good day especially as I love Bramley. There is a sign-up sheet for everyone who has a handicap on the board downstairs. We play in teams so a good way to meet people.

I am most grateful to Sue Preston for the this photograph below, I really feel it is the way forward when the course is ‘carry only’.  The caddies could trim the rough and fertilise the course at the same time.
