Ladies’ Golf Report

I go away and look what happens – two storms and course closures. In case you have forgotten what golf in the sun looks like here is a picture of De Zalze in Stellinbosch (picture above).

Thanks to my Vice Captain for keeping things going in my absence and for being such a successful Pearson Captain. For the first time in eight years, Roehampton Club has topped their group and are through to the knockout stage. A huge thank you to Tricia for her organisation and team picks and to everyone who played to get us this far.

Thanks also go to Jane Peel the Derry Captain, they are also through the first round and the team of Jo, Lorna and Jane have played their first match of the knockout stage away to Woodcote Park losing narrowly 2/1. They were hoping to play the home leg last Sunday but of course Dennis prevented this!  All to play for when you manage to reschedule.

The competition scheduled for 25th February is cancelled as the course team need to carry out major maintenance work.

The Captain’s Charity Bridge afternoon is coming up on 3rd March to raise money for the Battersea Summer Scheme. If you have not signed up for the bridge and tea there is still time.

Please sign up for the summer (ha ha!) knock outs if you have not already done so.

The Alan Scott Trophy is due to be played on Saturday, so hopefully the course will be open.

The sign up for Club Day is open, the format will be American Greensomes and the sign up for lunch is open at Reception. We must let the F&B team know the final numbers by Friday 13th March so, if you have not paid by then, you will not get any lunch.

Friendly Matches

Are you ready for the Ladies’ Friendly Matches? The sign up is now open on IG for this coming season. For those of you unfamiliar with match play or in need of a few tweaks to improve your game, Gill and Bridget have asked the Pros to organise some clinics specifically designed to enable you to sign up with confidence for the many Friendly Matches we play against other clubs. These will include match play rules, short game, putting and long game drills and some on-course practice.  Please look at the notice board for further information or email or talk to Gill or Bridget. A great initiative girls, thank you for organising this!

The intrepid Trish Boyington is doing another part of the Camino Walk from Saville to Zafra with her pals VA and MOS and I wish her a blister free, fair weather walk.

There is a change of date for the Pro Am this year to Monday 7th September which will have a knock-on affect for the Autumn Meeting dates which will now be Tuesday 15th September and Wednesday 16th September, with the Autumn Meeting Foursomes and prize giving moving to Tuesday 22nd September. Don’t say you were not informed nearer the time!

Future dates to look out for and I am hoping spring is around the corner!

  • Monday 23rd March, Salute the Services – a fun day and worthwhile cause splendidly organised by Duncan Christie-Miller.
  • Tuesday 31st March, Major Foursomes and Aussie Spoons
  • Saturday 18th April, Gold Cup – volunteers required please contact Tricia Morgan if you are interested.
