Annabell Fuller – AIG Women’s British Open

Annabell is competing this week in the Women’s British Open being played at Carnoustie. Annabell, who was the first alternate having played in the final qualifying round at Panmure on Monday was awarded a slot on the start sheet when another competitor was forced to withdraw. This is an incredible achievement and we wish her all the very best of luck as she plays in what I am sure will be the first of many Majors that she will compete in.  Members can follow her progress on BBC 2 who are showing coverage as well as the dedicated website. https://www.aigwomensopen.com/
Annabell tees off at 13:11 today, so I am sure when you are reading this that she will be playing her final few holes.

2021 Curtis Cup

Annabell as mentioned before in previous blogs has been selected to represent GB and Ireland once more in the Curtis Cup. This is Annabell’s second appearance as she became the youngest player ever to be selected for GB&I in 2018 when she played at Quaker Ridge, NY. The 2020 match vs United States will be played at Conwy Golf Club in Wales between 26-28 August having been postponed from last year due to the pandemic. https://www.randa.org/Championships/CurtisCup

Ladies’ Stableford Results – 17 August

A field of 20 took part on Tuesday. Congratulations to Claire Martin, continuing her fine form after, a superb 40 Points to win the Stableford.

Captain and Pro Match

The first Lady Captain and Pro Match was played against the strong pairing of this year’s first Druce duo Jo Thesiger and Caroline Dewar.  Ricky Pharo, Head Golf Pro, was representing the Pro Team and drove first into the rough on the left (they do it too!), I hit a reasonable drive to just beyond the 150 mark with Caroline 10 yards away and Jo straight and true up the middle.  First strike to the opposition.  However, sadly for all those including myself who are struggling with the rough, Ricky put his second shot 10 feet from the pin and everyone else scattered to the four winds.  Caroline struck some fantastic fairway woods and Jo hit a magnificent second shot onto the third green which resulted in a birdie 3, notoriously the most difficult hole on the course but they were not on their A game and Ricky had a wonderfully steady round of 3 under par which gave the Lady Captain and Pro a 4&3 victory.  The Battersea Summer Scheme has benefited by another £60 thank you one and all for a very enjoyable round.

Hicks Trophy – report from the Captain Jane Peel

‘We played the second leg of our match v Foxhills today.   A big welcome to Hannah who had a tough opponent but managed to hang on to a 4/3 loss, Jo was 2 down with 3 to play and lost to a birdie on the last, after very nearly getting a birdie herself and I managed to avenge my big loss away to win 7/5!  But that’s the end of our Hick’s for this year, thank you so much to everyone who has played in the matches.’

Well done getting to the quarter finals.

Mixed Senior Match v Guildford

We had a very enjoyable inaugural Mixed Seniors match against Guildford played at Roehampton Club last week.  They put up a good team with lower handicaps than ours, but Roehampton Club won 6-0!
