Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member

Golf Course Presentation Excellence and Gold Cup

I am pleased to report that the presentation of our golf course has been lauded by the visitors from various Surrey Golf Clubs last weekend as the best in class for 2022. Peter Bradburn and David Howe and their team of greenkeepers have excelled themselves, supported by the Gardening team, in preparing the course in such fabulous condition for Member major competitions/matches and the Gold Challenge Cup this Saturday 9th April. Some of the UK’s best professional and amateur women golfers are competing for the Gold Cup in its 93rd year after a two year Covid break. Please feel free to come and support our two competing golfers Nicole Stewart and Hyun-Ji Kim who are flying the Roehampton Club flag.

Our men will try to match the women’s score the next day in the annual Centenary Putter Competition, aided by refreshments from Dropshot Coffee at the Halfway House who start their three day a week trial. On that note, the new coffee in the Clubhouse, Piazza Coffee Shop and Juice bar supplied by Coffee Bay in Surbiton has been very well received by Members.

Sports Shop Offers for the new season

The Masters at Augusta often heralds the start of the golf season for many, and when dusting off your clubs you may find you need a change to improve your game. The Sports Shop Team have organised GolfClubs4Cash to come in and take away your old clubs and credit your shop account just in time for the Titleist custom fitting day on 20th April. Please click here for all the latest offers from the Sports Shop.

Look out for the Club’s Junior Golf Academy as Ricky and his team of Pros have compiled an exciting programme for the kids to take advantage of – click here for details.

Tennis and Croquet Men’s First teams on view on Sunday 10th

Our Men’s Tennis first team is taking on the National Champions and big rivals Sutton TC this Sunday at midday. Some of the best players in the UK will feature on courts 15-18. Come early for 10am, if you can, to watch our Men’s 2nd team play St. George’s Hill 1st team as they try to get Roehampton Club off to a winning start that day. Our Croquet 1st team play Surbiton in the National Clubs Competition at 2pm on Sunday so lots of live high standard sport to watch here at the Club, before settling down to the top of the table Premier League clash on tv.

Tennis Club Championships

Please note that the closing date for entries is 30th April. As the Gant Championships are not going ahead this year and will resume in 2023 with a new sponsor, we have moved our Club Championships Finals Day to Saturday 25th June on the grass courts. It promises to be a great occasion for players and spectators alike with finals for all ages and an after party for all in the evening including the Prizegiving. So please enter as many categories as you can here

Members Survey

The survey has now closed and can I thank all the 1200 Members who completed it giving us a 34% response rate which matches the response to the last comprehensive survey undertaken in 2018. We are sorry that the survey was long but we have so many activities at the Club and we wanted to receive feedback on how to improve them all for you. A summary of the results will be published at the AGM on May 23rd 2022.

Best wishes,

Marc
