Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member

Not sure how many bleary eyed Members watched Joe Salisbury very early last Sunday morning win his first Grand Slam tennis title at the Australian Open but if you did I am sure you would have been so proud of his performance. To play your very best in the most important game of your life must have been so satisfying. The commentators said he was the best player on the court and that he is sure to win many more Grand Slam titles. Joe also now qualifies for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and being No 4 in the world can choose his partner. Lets hope Sir Andy Murray is fit to be an option. What a pair they would make!

Joe has been back at the Club this week swimming and chilling out to get rid of the jet lag, soaking up all the congratulations from Members. He will be here Saturday evening having a celebratory drink with family and friends.

Good news is that Joe and his partner Rajeev Ram will be playing in the GANT Championships 25th to 27th June this year so save the date to buy your tickets in early March. Details will follow.

Wimbledon Ballot

If you want to secure a ticket to watch Joe and all the other stars at the 2020 Wimbledon Championships and you are a Tennis eligible Club Member please remember to sign in on the LTA website as a British Tennis member and follow the instructions. Deadline date is 14th February.

Padel Tennis

The Council have informed us that our application for two new Padel Tennis courts will be considered at the Planning Committee meeting in late March so our hoped for installation of two new courts will inevitably be moved to later on in the year if we are successful. We will keep Members updated on progress.

Roehampton Club Creche

I am pleased to see that our new sibling discount offer has been well received as has the opening for extra hours on a Saturday afternoon till 4pm. Tinies staff led by Patricia do a great job entertaining and caring for our youngest Members six days a week.

Wine Tasting and an Evening with Philip Glenister

Don’t miss the opportunity to join TV star Philip Glenister in conversation with Paul Mendelson on Friday 21st February. It is certain to be a very entertaining evening, as will be the Wine Tasting Evening hosted by our Wine Committee on Thursday 13th February. A selection of wines to suit every palate will be available to taste and compare. Book now at Reception or give them a call on 020 8480 4200.

Six Nations Rugby

Another full weekend of fixtures this weekend with Wales vs Ireland at 2.15pm on Saturday followed by Scotland vs England. France play Italy on Sunday. Take advantage of our special offer of a Dirty Burger and pint of Otter Amber Ale for just £15.95 while watching in the Bar or Club Café. They were very popular last week despite England and Scotland losing!

Best wishes,

Marc
