Chairman’s Message

Dear Member,

Can I thank everyone who participated in the Members Forum last week by either sending in questions or contributing on the evening. I apologise again for the sound issues we had in the first part of the meeting, but we did manage to answer all the questions posed and hopefully all found it informative.

For those not able to participate a summary of the meeting and the presentation given can be accessed here.

The Board has endeavoured to illustrate in the presentation some of the key issues it has had to deal with over the last few months as a result of the pandemic and the assumptions it has to make about the unforeseeable future. It is pleased to report that the vast majority of Members have given very good feedback on how the Club has kept Members engaged during lockdown and also how it has re-opened its facilities since. Praise must be given to Marc Newey and his very competent team of staff in that regard and our thanks must be recorded to them all for working tirelessly on our behalf.

All shareholders will have received a copy of the 2019 Annual report and Accounts plus notice of our delayed AGM which will take place on Monday 24th August at 6.30pm. Regrettably, as indicated previously, the AGM will be a closed meeting for safety reasons. Voting will be by proxy form only which should be received by Sunday 23rd August at the latest please. Any pre-submitted questions should be restricted to items on the Agenda please which can be found here.

Questions should be sent to membership@roehamptonclub.co.uk as should your register to interest to participate by viewing the meeting online.

Congratulations to our Croquet team who made it through to the National Clubs Championship Final vs Nottingham which will be played here in October. We will look forward to giving the team our full support.

I am pleased to see that the Health Club’s operation is slowly but surely restoring its pool programme with Aqua, Hydro Spin and Swim School classes resuming at the beginning of September as well as swimming lessons due to start on 7th September. Changing rooms and showers will open on a limited basis this weekend too.  Luke Fenton and his team have done an admirable job coping with and interpreting all the safety restrictions and guidance. Full details here

I have also heard glowing reports on the quality of the food produced by our kitchen team. I tasted the new weekly menu myself last week and can endorse all the compliments. The Eat out to Help out scheme has been popular, but I notice Members eating out every evening as our spectacular gardens provide the perfect backdrop. The catering serving team have a done a wonderful job on making both the inside and outside areas as safe as possible for Members.

On that note can I remind Members that unfortunately COVID- 19 has not disappeared, and so all social distancing measures must still be observed and respected for other Members. This applies to quarantining on return from travel abroad as well. We want the Club to remain a safe haven for all. It only takes one infected person to make contact with numerous Members and staff on one day for our Club to be at risk of closure and undo all the good work done to date. Please be sensible and cautious at all times and please respect staff’s instructions.

Best wishes,
Alan
