Bridge Blog

The Bridge Committee had a very socially distanced meeting this morning. We all sat 2 metres apart at separate tables (photo above), which though it looked and felt odd meant that we could at last get together to discuss the way forward.

Unfortunately, there have been no guidelines issued by either the Government or the EBU for playing Bridge, so the Club is unable to sanction any move back into the Bridge Room. But please do not worry, we are keen to get back in there as soon as it is sensible to do so. It might be that our first forays will still involve playing cards on our laptops on BBO but for those who would like to do so with company then taking the computer to the Bridge Room might be an option. This will not happen any time soon, but it is something that we are actively looking into.

I am sure you will not be surprised but the Committee have decided to cancel this year’s Swiss Teams Event on 25th October. It is hard to see how we could manage the social distancing in such a packed event. However, please do keep the date in your diary because if it is at all possible, we will try to run an internal Teams’ event just for Roehampton Club Members. Obviously, this will depend on the guidelines for social events in October, but hopefully things will have moved on.

Next year’s Swiss Teams’ Competition will take place on Sunday 24th October at 2pm.

The Committee is very grateful to the Club for continuing to fund our online Duplicate.

The Teams’ League will end on 7th August. Well done to everyone who has participated. I do hope that you have all enjoyed the format and the matches.

With three rounds to go the leading teams (based on Net IMPs) are :

Team 2: Malcolm and Diane Bricknell, Peter Hardyment and Rob Warriner
Team 1: Danny and Sally Gesua, Miles and Ellie Elliot
Team 3: Kate Manners, Jeanette Reid, Viv Harris and Paul Ambrus

The eventual winners will be announced by email to the Captains and then in the Recorder on 20th August.

We will take a break and start the next League on 4th September.  Could you please let Danny know on dannygesua2003@yahoo.co.uk if you would like to enter a team. Please include your teams’ usernames and your pairings. Once we know how many teams would like to enter our Autumn League we will decide on the format and let you all know.

I do hope that all of you have now managed to visit the Club either for a swim, to play Golf or tennis or for a drink. We are so lucky to have such a haven to enjoy despite not being able to play our wonderful game.

See you all soon, I hope
