Autumn Term Art Classes

The autumn term of seven weekly art classes started in the Art Studio and live on zoom with a record 88 students.

Several students are new to the Art Group and to classes including Catherine Arnfield who joined the Beginners and Improvers drawing and painting class; here is her final still life from the first class.

The class syllabus, up-to-date materials lists, zoom instructions and enhanced social distancing rules are all available to download on the Art Class page of the Members’ website.

The syllabus for some of the acrylics classes is linked to the topics of the art lectures; here is a selection of the Art of the Sublime from this weeks’ class

Enjoy the new term and thanks for complying with the social distancing rules! If we do not, we risk not being able to use the Art Studio.

Autumn Art Lectures

The first of the autumn series of three art lectures took place last week with 70 people registered to watch live on zoom.
The second autumn lecture will be:

Rafael – Genius of the Renaissance in Rome By Art Society Lecturer: Jo Walton

20th October at 7pm (note the earlier 7pm start) Live on Zoom

This lecture looks at Rafael’s short but astonishing career as a painter, architect, administrator, and superb draughtsman and considers his lasting influence on subsequent artists. Lecturer Jo Walton works for the Arts Society, the Art Fund and Dulwich Picture Gallery.

The lecture can be watched by art group members free and live on zoom. There will be no audience at the club and no recordings.

If you are an art group member and would like to watch the lecture via zoom, please book at Reception or give them a call on 020 8480 4200.

We will email everyone who has booked to watch by zoom with the arrangements two days before the lecture.

The Club has offered to sponsor us to arrange a third, extra autumn lecture which will be: Anne Anderson – The Scottish Colourists on 24th November at 7pm

Annual Art Exhibition and Sale

Art Group Members are all invited to submit their art works to the 2020 Annual Art Exhibition and Sale which will take place online as an exciting 3D art show from 9th to 30th November 2020.

There was no spring Class Exhibition this year due to Covid19. So we would encourage the art class students to submit their art work to the main exhibition; if you need reassurance then speak with your art tutor before you choose which paintings to submit.

We will send an email to all Art Group members in the first week of October 2020 giving instructions about how to submit your artwork.

There will be no need to come to the Club or frame your art works and you do not need to offer any of them for sale if you do not want to.

You will submit them by email, attaching images of your artwork, typically taken on your phone.

We will ask for submissions to be with us by 28th October 2020; so, at this stage all you need do is start choosing the art works you wish to enter.

Open Art Studio

The popular open art studio is available again from 10am to 12 noon on Tuesday mornings for art group members.

You may use the facilities in the art studio subject to the social distancing and hygiene rules which you can see on the notice board and on the club web site. Those include a maximum of six people in the studio at any one time. The shortened time is to allow for the studio to be cleaned prior to the afternoon class.

Booking at Reception in advance is required so that we know the numbers and comply with ‘track and trace’ requirements.
