Japonisme to Modernism

How Japanese style changed Western Art

Tuesday 15th March at 8pm

Most of the prominent artists working in England, Europe and America in the 19th century owned and were influenced by Japanese artefacts, including wood carvings, prints, and silks. Woodblock print artists influenced Van Gogh, Toulouse Lautrec, Monet, Degas, and Whistler as well as architects such as Le Corbusier.

To book your place either in the Club (so we have an idea of numbers) or on Zoom (to receive the zoom link) email Reception at reception_main@roehamptonclub.co.uk or call Reception on 020 8480 4200

The annual Class Artwork Exhibition

The annual Class Artwork exhibition will open in the Reading Room on Monday 28th March. A new team is busy working with our tutors and students to put together a great sample of work from the last year.

Art Group members are invited to the Exhibition Opening Drinks, which will be available in the Garden Room from 6pm; you may take them to the Reading Room when you view the artwork.

This is followed by our AGM from 6.30pm in the Garden Room.

Easter Holiday Master Classes

I am delighted that the three-day master classes ‘painting and drawing in real life’ have proved so popular; that there will now be three in the Easter holiday and the waiting list is now closed.

We know that there is demand for more masterclasses, including new ones in pastels and life drawing/portraiture. We should put together a new team to organise these classes in future holidays as they are proving so popular.
