Soundproofing the Art Studio

I am delighted to announce that the Art Studio is being soundproofed. Work starts on Monday 20th July and access to the Studio will not be permitted for the works period which could be 5-6 weeks in total with a view to it being completed at the end of August.

This will of course mean the studio will be closed during this period but also that we will not have to listen to the sound of squash from next term!

July’s Artist: Stephen Breathnach

I gave up art around 17 because I felt I couldn’t draw. I barely touched a pencil or brush until after medical training and 45 years in the NHS, ending up as a consultant dermatologist. I started up again after COVID with Kathy Barker in her beginner’s multimedia class, and subsequently Daisy Drummond in her acrylics class. Both have been incredibly kind, supportive and inspirational.

I have particularly enjoyed interacting with my fellow students, sharing the banter, our frustration when things go wrong, and great satisfaction when a particular work turns out as well as, or better than, expected.

My thanks to Richard Ramsey, the Art Group, the Club staff for all their organisation, and all the volunteers, who make our Art Group classes, lectures and exhibitions proceed smoothly. Art at Roehampton Club is great fun. I am amazed at how much talent and knowledge there is out there in a comparatively small group of like-minded people. I can’t wait until classes begin again after the summer break!
