Roehampton Club 125th anniversary Art Group and PhotoClub Exhibition

The Art Group and PhotoClub are organising an exhibition of paintings and drawings and photographs to celebrate the Club’s 125th anniversary. All Art Group and PhotoClub members are invited to create and enter up to three artworks for potential display in May and June.

Instructions

The artwork should feature any aspect of the Club. Classic views and activities such as sports, social events, grounds and people. Also think laterally. Be creative. We want a broad spread of subjects and compositions. Paintings can cover the Club’s entire 125 year history. Click here for photos from the Club’s archive

Photographs should have been taken during 2025 and up until the submission date for entries of 27th March 2026.

There will be up to 125 artworks displayed on panels throughout the Club and there may also be a rolling display of images on the TV screens. Due to the limited space, we will have to have a selection process to achieve the best overall exhibition with a combination of paintings and photographs. This exhibition is in addition to the normal annual and class exhibitions.

Key Dates

• By 27th March 2026 – submission of photos of artwork for the selection process
• 7th April 2026 – advise artists and photographers of the selection decisions
• 30th April 2026 – take in of framed paintings and photographs
• May / June 2026 – exhibition on display
• 1st July 2026 – take down and collection of artworks

Size and framing

Paintings

Paintings should be framed after selection with a maximum framed size of 60 x 60cm. All frames need to be robust and clean, enhancing the artwork, with a wire attached firmly a third of the way down the back which we consider will ensure the painting can be hung safely for two months. The only exception to framing is large, boxed canvases which must be painted neatly down the sides with the same wiring requirement.

A label should be attached to the back of the painting with the artists name, contact telephone number and the title of the painting together with the panel number you will have been told when your painting has been selected.

We would like to thank artists who submit the paintings which are selected and encourage them to choose good quality frames which enhance their paintings and the exhibition. The selected artists should bear in mind that paintings will be hung on panels standing alongside photographs; the photographs will be in one simple type of black frame.

We will offer £25 to the artist for each painting selected following framing and drop off in accordance with these instructions; this may be as a top up to their club cards.

Photographs

Photographs will be printed, mounted and framed by PhotoClub in a maximum size A4 or square crop.

Entry and selection process for paintings and photographs

Members of the Art Group / PhotoClub may each submit between one and three artworks for consideration for the exhibition. This is done by sending separate emails to arrive by 27th March 2026 with a photograph of each artwork attached to 125artwork@roehamptonclub.co.uk

Painters can send a photograph taken with a normal camera phone and include in the email:
• Name in full
• Roehampton Club membership number
• Title of painting / drawing
• Dimensions of unframed painting / drawing in centimetres
• Contact details – email and mobile number

Remember, if selected, the frame will need to be a maximum 60 x 60cms. Photographers should send JPEGs minimum 4MB at resolution of 300dpi and include in the email their name and contact details.

A small group of curators, artists and photographers will meet to make the selection and advise the chosen artists and photographers by 7th April; this will give time for painters and PhotoClub to arrange framing. Their decision will be final.

Where a selected artwork contains a recognisable person, their written consent should be obtained in the 125 Exhibition Consent form before you embark on your final piece. Click here to download the form in Word format / PDF. Printed copies of the form are available from Reception.  Please complete this form as it relates to you, return a hard copy to Helen Bolt, Marketing and Membership Manager, or via email to helen.bolt@roehamptonclub.co.uk. Please also return a copy (a photo is fine) via email to 125artwork@roehamptonclub.co.uk.

Neither the Club nor the Art Group are responsible for any loss or damage to artworks, or for the storage of any item before or after the exhibition.

Favourite artwork competition

There will be awards for both the favourite painting and the favourite photograph. These will be decided by a small group of people, whose decision will be final and awarded at an Art Group summer garden party on 18th June 2026. The Club may also consider offering to acquire their favourite paintings and photographs for permanent display. Artists can decide if their artwork is for sale at the time if they are approached by the Club.

Take Down

You should collect your artwork on 1st July 2026, time to be advised. The Club will not be able to store artwork so you may need to arrange for a friend to collect for you.

This will be the first combined exhibition of paintings and photographs by the Art Group. The objective is to curate a great looking exhibition which shows the Art Group and the Club at their best!

We are looking forward to seeing all your artwork. Time flies so start your creative process now!

Annual Art Group Exhibition and Sale

An exhibition and sale of artwork by the talented members of the Art Group is held in November each year. All members of the Art Group are invited to enter up to three artworks for a small charge. The standard of entries continues to impress everyone and includes artwork in acrylics, watercolours, pastels, mixed media, charcoal and pencil, and also ceramics.

Full details of how to enter the exhibition are emailed to all Art Group members and posted on the Art Group noticeboard in Reception from September.

Art Group Dinner

The exhibition is launched with a private view and drinks reception, followed by our annual dinner for all Art Group members and their guests. This is a great opportunity to meet and chat with fellow artists at the Club while viewing the exhibition and celebrating the activities of the group through the year.

Other Exhibitions

Classwork exhibition

Students participating in the Art Group Classes are invited to exhibit one of the artworks which they have produced in class in an exhibition in the spring. This is a great way to show off the work of our students and also the benefit of the great teaching skills of our professional tutors.

Reading Room exhibitions

Our more accomplished artists are also invited to form individual or a joint exhibitions of their art. These are held each month and are displayed in the Reading Room at the Club. This is a great way for Members to view and, if they wish, buy works of art while at the Club.
