Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member,

I was pleased to be part of the very successful Gold Cup golf weekend last weekend as it kickstarted our 125th anniversary celebrations. Members have commented how proud they were of the Club’s staff and the attention to detail given to the presentation of the golf course, the catering and the general organisation of the Gold Cup Pro Am, the Centenary Gold Cup, and Centenary Putter Competition over the three days.

As always, our Golf Captains – Jo Thesiger and Bob Mitchell – did the Club proud in hosting the events, and the standard of golf was top notch over the weekend as the course proved difficult to tame in the windy conditions.

Big thanks must be given to Russell-Cooke, the Club’s solicitors who sponsored the two Centenary Gold Cup events, being their 21st year of sponsorship.

Indoor Golf Centre

Work has now started on the IGC by the main contractor CPE Projects. During March, White Horse Contracts stripped back the turf in preparation for CPE to start the main works this week.

Click here to see some drone footage on YouTube of those initial works and a visual of what to expect when the project is due to be completed in February 2027. We will be using a drone to track the progress of the build and to keep Members updated. Please resist the temptation to try to retrieve any golf balls from the works area as it will be unsafe to do so.

Under 8’s Play Area

We aim to open this new area for younger children under the Bar Terrace for the beginning of May. It has been designed to allow children to play (supervised by parents) while parents can sit in the gardens and be served refreshments from our mobile bar and order snacks from the piazza. This will reduce the demand on the Bar Terrace and keep young children occupied in a safe environment. There will be games and toys provided and of course we will be open to suggestions from families on what new toys we can provide.

New Padel Hub

We have received feedback from Wandsworth Council planning officers to say they will consider a full application for planning permission to convert Courts 4-6 to house five padel courts with a cover and floodlights. They feel that the application will have a ‘modest impact on openness’ in that location which is the best we can hope for.

We must still fulfil a long list of conditions to be able to submit for full planning permission and justify the application through a set of very special circumstances which will involve local community use by schools. The Board supports submitting an application for planning permission now and we will hopefully secure it by October.  If successful the Board will then decide after consultation with Committees and Members on what time would best to start the works within the three-year planning consent period.
