Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member,

Rain, rain go away …

As we can see the rain is doing its best to disrupt our sporting programme. We have received 205mm of rain on our course and lawns since the beginning of October. Average total rainfall in October is normally 65mm and for November 75mm. We are way above that already in aggregate and we still have two weeks to go. We have had to revert to three temporary greens on most days due to the saturation and these are the greens which are earmarked for drainage works next August in preparation for next winter. Peter Bradburn will be sending out, via Intelligent Golf, an indication of the weekly course opening status tomorrow and on subsequent Fridays throughout the winter so golfers can plan ahead. The only caveat is that the UK weather is prone to change overnight so please note this is only a guide.

Men’s Tennis Teams win at European Club Championships

Roehampton Club Men’s O30 team:
Bojan Jelovac, Alex Ward, Nik Snapes, Matt Short

Two of our age group National Champion Teams represented GB at the European Club Championships in Turkey last week with the O30’s Team, captained by Nik Snapes, beating the Slovenian team in the final and losing just one match throughout week.

Roehampton Club Men’s O55 team:
Bruce Walker (Captain), Cameron Hulett, Tim Webb, Bernd Stuebing, John Wixley

The Men’s O55 team qualified as National Champions in 2022 and the team, captained by Bruce Walker, won two matches to reach the semifinal losing a close match to Argayon Club from Belgium. Cameron Hulett was unbeaten in his singles matches throughout the tournament.

Both teams did Roehampton Club proud and the O30’s team added another European Club title to the Club’s collection.

Roehampton Club Men’s O35 team:
Richard Bloomfield, Matthias Rekate, Bojan Jelovac, Chris Archer

The O35’s Team had won the National Championships for the second year in a row with a 3-2 win over Sutton Coldfield a few weeks ago.

Art Exhibition and Sale

Michael Hill was guest of honour opening the Art Exhibition and Sale this week.  He and I attended the sellout Art Group Dinner and were yet again amazed at the high standard of art on show from the Members.

Many were paying tribute to the two tutors, Kathy Barker, and Shaun Carey who have significantly raised the ability levels of all the students over the last few years. Please view the exhibition upstairs in the Clubhouse, the Reading Room and the Health Club Reception until Sunday 26th November and vote for your favourite three paintings. Some are available to buy as well to make an ideal Christmas present.
