Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member,

It was so pleasing for my team to welcome Members back to the Club this week in glorious sunshine and to see all the smiling faces. Thank you for all the kind words given to the respective teams for the hard work they have put in to preparing the Club for opening.

Thank you also to Members for adhering to the rules on social distancing , sanitising hands on entry and wearing facemasks in the Clubhouse changing rooms. We need to be responsible for our own and other Members’ safety and well being at this challenging time.

It would be good if Members could wear face coverings outdoors as well as they walk round the Club to their activity just to be on the safe side.

Paul Mendelson – new Honorary Member

Paul has been a Member of the Club for all of his life which is now over 50 years.  He loves the Club and continues to be of its most well known and colourful characters. He is selling his house in East Sheen and moving down to Devon in the summer and would like to continue his association with the Club by being its online Bridge Professional and presenting occasional seminars.

Padel Tennis

We are delighted the Padel Tennis Courts are currently on schedule to open on May Bank Holiday weekend – save the date for the Grand Opening Weekend. The Padel Tennis programme will be overseen by Paul Lindsay (Racquets Manager) who will work closely together with Dan Lott (Racquets Director) – Paul will take the lead role of Head Padel Professional. Following the growth of Padel the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is now the official governing body. Paul, a qualified (British Padel Coaching Association) BPCA Level 2 Padel coach, will attend the first available coaching course to qualify under the new LTA licence. Read more about Padel here

Children’s Playground

The Children’s Playground remains open while the works are continuing- please note the new temporary entrance for young children and parents.

We ask that children are supervised at all times please so they are not tempted to stray on to the works areas.

New Outdoor Exercise Area

Members will see works going on outside the Snooker Room to provide a new all-weather cushioned artificial grass area for outdoor exercise and fitness sessions, children’s activities and a family play area. We hope to have this new area ready for use from Monday 26th April as we continue to make the best use of our outdoor areas while adapting to the current pandemic environment.

Roehampton Club in the Community

I hope Members were able to see the recent BBC report on the fabulous work that the Club’s nominated charity Rackets Cubed has been doing in the local Roehampton community.

We’ve changed the narrativewww.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-56413821

The Club is proud to play a small part in supporting the work being done and will continue to do so.

We have received a lovely letter from staff at Queen Mary’s Hospital to thank us for providing benches for nurses and patients to sit on in their garden areas as we have replaced ours with new furniture. Click here to read.

Tulloch Clinic Opportunity

I am pleased to see that The Tulloch Clinic is advertising for an additional physiotherapist. The Clinic has been busy during lockdown and demand is certain to shoot up now that Members are back on the course, courts and the lawns. If anyone knows a suitable applicant please contact tullochclinic@aol.com. The advert can be found here
