Derry Cup

The Derry Cup 2019/2020 final was played at the RAC a week last Sunday against Royal Wimbledon. Our team of Lorna Robey, Sammy Fuller and Jo Thesiger (in order according to the photo). The caddies for the team were: myself, Trish Boyington and Mary Barlow. Sadly, after an incredibly close match the team finished as runners-up. Sammy had a comfortable win which the rest of us having seen her drive on the first, were comfortably sure was in the bag. Jo lost on the 19th , as did Lorna having come back from 3 down to level the match watched by the rest of the team on the 18th.

Good luck in the 2020/2021 campaign which begins now!

Pearson

The Pearson season opener was played on 22 October away against Woodcote Park. The team of: Siobain Rolston, Fiona Pollard, Claire Martin, Emma Angood, Caroline Dewar, Henrietta O’Shea and Louise Tierney had a tremendously close match with one game going down the 19th and another down the 20th before losing 4/3. Next up Reigate Hill away.

Daily Mail Foursomes

Emma Angood and Henrietta O’Shea played in the first round of the Daily Mail Foursomes on Home turf against Burhill . They are always very tough opponents and despite an extremely close match going down the 19th, Burhill were the winners and will go through to the next round.

WHS

The next time I write we will be under the World Handicap System (WHS). Please ensure you have all accepted the WHS Data Privacy so that you are awarded a handicap. No handicap, no competitions.

Please ensure you know your exact handicap index (decimal point included) so that you can accurately look up your playing handicap on the slope tables that will be installed on the 1st and 10th tees.

If you do not understand please ask the Sports Shop team, Tristan or the Committee

The Stableford competition on 10th November will be played using the WHS. I repeat, you must have accepted the WHS Data Privacy to have a handicap to enter this competition.

Playing 9 holes on 18 hole days – Be a considerate golfer

Please, if you only want to play 9 holes on the days when 18 holes are available, can you book after 1pm. We have a huge number of Members wanting to play a full round and trying to play winter knockout competitions. By only playing 9 holes on an 18 hole day you prevent more players accessing the whole course. With shorter daylight hours the pressure on the course will be even greater.

The Library

Due to COVID-19 we have a temporary suspension of the Library. Our Librarians, Linda Hamilton and Mary Barlow would be grateful if no books were donated at this time. Thank you.
