Derry Cup

The semi-final, second leg of the 2019/2020 Derry Cup was played at Roehampton on Thursday 10th September against Croham Hurst.  The team of Sammy Fuller, Jo Thesiger and Jane Peel had a fantastic 3-0 win to advance into the final, which is being played at the RAC on 18th October.  For a Club with a small single figure section this is a remarkable achievement and we wish the team well in the final.

Departures and Arrivals

You may have seen that Ryan has left Roehampton Club to move to Keynsham where his fiancée is starting a new job. He has been a great asset to the Club and a huge help to many of us ladies.

On behalf of the Ladies’ Section, we have given him gift vouchers which will help when setting up their new home. If you would like to contribute to this, please give your donation to any Committee Member or drop it in the box at the Sports Shop next Tuesday at Autumn Meeting 2.

At the same time, please welcome Louis Laville to the club, who will be joining Tristan in the office.

World Handicap System

With the arrival of the World Handicap System it is a wonderful opportunity to embrace change at our Club, to build on the advances made by the Men’s and Ladies’ sections last year, promoting and playing more mixed competitions.  In Europe, this is more the norm than currently in the UK and a trend the Golf Committees feel Roehampton Club should be at the forefront of adopting.  You will therefore notice that the stroke indexes for the men and the women will be the same from 2nd November.  The Committee have done several experiments over the last couple of months and realise it makes little or no difference to stableford scoring.  There will be no difference to the number of shots given in matches, however some of the shots may be on different holes.  We wait to see how our handicaps will travel to other courses with this new and exciting World Handicap System.

Members were emailed last night with more detailed information of WHS, click here for all the information if you did not receive the email. Further updates will be sent to Members in due course.
