Croquet Communique

Preparations are underway for the resumption of outdoor sport at the Club, which includes Croquet. The drainage works are complete, and the grass is healing well as the lawns are being prepared. Courts 1, 2, and 3 will be set up as full size for the resumption of play on the 29th March.

Booking will open approximately two weeks in advance with some changes to procedure, which be notified in due course.

Internal competitions

The one-week extension for Singles bookings expired last Monday, and we are pleased that it allowed several additional entries.

Doubles entry forms were sent out on Monday and must be returned by 22nd March, 2021.

Jimmy James Memorial Cup

This new tournament is designed to be a light-hearted but competitive event for nine plus handicaps doubles pairings. Dependent on entry, we will decide the final tournament format, but it is likely to be held over one or possibly two days in May. We hope for a good turnout, from Nine Plus handicaps from both existing and new Members, in honour of Jimmy James, who played until his 101st birthday.

Doubles Partner

Anyone looking for a doubles partner, should send their name and handicap to Mike Pattison, and he will circulate the names to others looking for a partner, to make up a pair.

Zoom Meetings: Association Croquet

Tim Russell aided by Peter Siddall has run several Zoom Tactical Association Croquet Discussions. They have been quite well attended and enjoyed by those who have joined in. Some of the entertainment has been the ‘White Board’ being operated by Mike, in his study, while Tim and Peter spoke from their respective homes – a challenge but reasonably successful. Particular thanks to Tim for leading the discussions.

My Mallet

Overcome by the possibility of a return to play, was seen waiting for the gates to open!

Keep Well
