Croquet Communiqué

Annual Dinner

5th March saw the Croquet Section’s Annual Dinner held in the Fountain Room. A good turnout had a pleasant evening with an enjoyable dinner and an interesting talk from guest speaker, John Bowcott, former Chairman of the Council of Croquet Association.

Many thanks to Jeanette Burn and Carole McLouglin for organising the evening. Pictures above.

GC Floodlit Matches

We resumed our friendly GC Floodlit Matches on 12th March against Cheam. The Roehampton Club Team of Lynn Pearcy, Peter Siddall, Nicholas Halton and Dan Pearson shared the opening doubles but fared less well in the singles. Very competitive games, two of which went to the ‘Golden Hoop’, saw us lose all four singles. The unrelenting wind and recent tining, created challenging playing conditions for all. Pictures below.

Croquet and Coronavirus

An email has been sent to all croquet-playing Members advising them of the current playing situation.

Jimmy James

It is with great sadness that the Croquet Section have lost their oldest Member, Jimmy James 102. He died peacefully in hospital on 11th March. He was a good friend to so many, a great football fan, and in his day, a competitive tennis and croquet player, who was always good company. He will be much missed.
