Croquet Communique

Well here we go again! Locked down with severe restrictions on amateur sport!

There is no indication of any respite despite representations to the Government so we have to hope that the situation improves and we can soon return to the lawns.

My Mallet

My mallet has had to reconsider life and although, freed from its locker, is confined to quarters and is for now dodging chores and DIY, and instead enjoying reading – and even contemplating a little research into croquet tactics.

Unusual Machinery

Some players may have noticed an unusual piece of machinery on lawn 3 just before lock down. Its appearance also explains the recent installation of electric power sockets along the boundary with the tennis courts. To give it its official name it is an SGI BU50 artificial lighting rig. Grow lights help to grow grass and promote photosynthesis by applying light and additional heat, which enables and reinforces grass growth on all sports playing surfaces.

It will hopefully encourage growth in areas of shade and heavy wear and improve lawn quality.

There is no truth in the rumour that the croquet section will be running ‘tanning’ clinics!
