Bridge Report

Thank you so much to everyone who played in the Duplicate session on 27th January in memory of Norrie Buxton. 21 tables had a friendly but competitive afternoon of bridge and we raised a magnificent £752 for Target Ovarian Cancer. Thank you to Belinda Stone for her efforts on organising such a lovely afternoon.

Both the Hearts and the Diamonds teams have had a good win in their respective Business House Leagues. The Diamond team had an impressive 59 to 2 Imps victory over Habeas Corpus team – well done to Peter B-M, Peter H, Viv and Ralph.

Not to be outdone, the Hearts team beat Buttons by 68 Imps. Congratulations to Malcolm, Adam, Sandra and Kate B.

In the SLTBC league we have played one match, managing a draw against Epsom Tennis Club. Well played to Rita, Verena, Sue N and Kate B.

Due to rising costs we have decided that table money on the Monday afternoon duplicate sessions will rise from £3 to £4 from 1st March.

The new Supervised play session at 7.30pm on a Monday evening is up and running. We have had three sessions with enough takers to fill three to four tables each time. From small
beginnings …

If you would like more play practice do come along. If you can come as a pair, please do but don’t be put off coming if you have no partner. We will find you one. Many thanks to Ron for giving up his Monday evenings to help and to provide valuable advice.

Many congratulations to Peter Hardyment who with his partner, Sajid Ispahani (a former Roehampton Club Member), won the Blue pointed Swiss pairs at Richmond last Sunday. As the first prize was £400 it attracted a lot of top county bridge players. Well played.

On 3rd March at 2pm there is the Lady Golf Captain’s Charity Bridge afternoon. Angie’s Charity is the Battersea Summer Scheme. It gives young people the opportunity to have a wide range of adventures and things to look forward to in the summer months. The opportunities help build confidence and resilience.

The event is open to all bridge-playing Members, you do not need to be a golfer. The format is Chicago.

Cost is £66 per table which includes high tea and prizes. Please sign up at Reception if you would like to book a table.
