Bridge Blog

Dear All,

As the Club remains closed and we are not able to use any of its wonderful facilities in person I am delighted to advise you that the Club has agreed to continue to fund our online Bridge activities.

This means that we will not be collecting money from your Club Cards for any Bridge you may have played in January and any that you are hoping to play in February.

However, we will continue to charge £3 for guests to play. I will keep a tally of guest visits.

We will continue to review the situation, but this arrangement will continue at least until the Club is reopened.

I am sorry if any of you have already topped up your Club Card, but the money from Top Ups will stay on your membership for at least five years.

We are very grateful to the Club for their continued financial support.

We have decided to leave the Real Bridge session at 7.30pm on a Tuesday evening. I appreciate that this doesn’t suit everyone, however, it does allow those who are working to be able to join us for some Bridge and I think that it is very important to make sure that all members of the section can access Duplicate sessions.

Paul’s new Friday class is proving popular. For those who have missed the announcements they feature 80 minutes of play on RealBridge, during which there are four set hands on a specific topic followed by random hands. Paul will be available to give advice at the table for the random deals.  At 11.30am, the class re-convenes on Zoom to study the hands and look at answers to a pre-session quiz.

The session costs £7 per player and runs from 10am – 12.30/12.45pm
It is ideal for intermediate players and all those who enjoyed the Roehampton Friday Mornings.

Paul is also running Duplicate Tactic sessions on a Tuesday afternoon at 2pm. These will continue on a weekly basis for the moment.

Paul’s Advanced Coaching classes will re-start on Thursday 25th February at 10.15am.

If you would like to participate in any of the classes and do not get the links from Paul already please contact him on pm@aceoftrumps.com and he will send you the necessary links.

We are considering whether to run a monthly teams’ event on Real Bridge, as we appreciate that many of you feel unable to commit to the weekly playing in the Teams League.

As we run Bridge events every weekday I think the only option would be at the weekend. Victor would be able to TD for us on a Sunday afternoon.

Before we decide whether to go ahead I would be grateful if you could let me know whether you would be interested in playing monthly in a Teams’ event on Real Bridge at kate11blake@btinternet.com.

If there is sufficient interest then I will happily set up a monthly Teams competition on a Sunday afternoon.

Finally, a reminder. When we are playing Duplicate online, we must make sure that we cannot see our partner’s cards while bidding and leading and cannot communicate with them about what to bid or lead. Ideally, if possible, we should play in a separate location from our partners and we should not use our phones while bidding and during the play.

I look forward to meeting many of you online at the Bridge Table.
