Wishing and Hoping

This is the last Bridge newsletter of 2021, and I am wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas, and that you are able go ahead with your Christmas plans and spend time with friends and family. I am hoping that come the New Year we will not all be back in lockdown and that the number of members coming back to the bridge room continue to increase, as they have done since July when we were allowed to return.

We have managed to go ahead with all our planned festivities to date – the final one is the Christmas Eve mulled wine/mince pies and Chicago morning 11am to 1pm and I do hope you will join us for that. I’d rather not be Billy no mates having to eat all the mince pies!

On Tuesday 14th December – we had our Super Social Introduction to Duplicate Pairs

Fiona Pollard did a sterling job of recruiting 42 new players keen to make the transition to duplicate bridge and Ron Wood organised the session with his usual efficiency, assisted by volunteer helpers who were there to support, answer questions and generally assist.

This was an excellent way of encouraging our Roehampton social bridge players to feel confident to come and join our Thursday Duplicates.

Please do welcome any newcomers who may start to attend on a Thursday in the new year and make allowances while they get to grips with the pace and procedures.

Thursday 16th December 7.30pm – Social Duplicate Christmas Special

Thus was a fun evening of duplicate bridge with prizes, following on from the Carol singing and mulled wine which took place by the Christmas tree in the piazza. This was organised by Ron Wood and Felicity Irlam who report that there were nine tables in play and a good time was had by all.

Calendar 2022

Click here for the Bridge Calendar for 2022 or pick up a hard copy from the Bridge notice board in Reception, or from the bridge room.

Just a reminder – the dates for our regular sessions to resume after the New Year (assuming no restrictions) are-

Monday Duplicate – Restarting 3rd January

Tuesday Supervised with Loulou – Restarting 11th January

Wednesday BBO – Continues throughout

Thursday Chicago – Restarting 30th December

Thursday Social Duplicate – Restarting 6th January.

Should Covid restrictions be imposed on us after Christmas then we will aim to move our sessions to Realbridge or BBO.

I think that is all from me and if I don’t see you on Christmas Eve then I wish you a Happy New Year and look forwarding to seeing you in 2022.
